What's your religion

Many years ago now, while on active duty in the Army, some missionaries (you could tell by their clothes) came to our worksite and struck up a conversation. Eventually came the question, "So, Sarge, what religion are you?" My motor sergeant unhesitatingly replied, "Capitalist." Came the response, "But, Sarge, that's not a religion." Sarge replied "It is the way I practice it."

    As a scientist, engineer and rational atheist for the last 42 years, Rand's Objectivism has been a beacon of reason against mysticism, superstition and the imaginary friends of the three monotheisms of Christianity, Judaism and Islam. But Dawkin's "God Delusion" of 2006 and Hitchens' "God is Not Great" of 2007 have provided other strong counter-arguments not given by Objectivism.

    Most religions teach basic morals that guide lives. I don't think a religious person should have a problem being a capatilist.

    "Religion" is nothing more than philosophy, and a codified dogma for finding some sort of enlightenment. As long as it is approached in a live and let live fashion, I personally wouldn't begrudge anyone the free practice of whatever religion they like.

    I do like the notion of a "Capitalist" Religion!

    I don't really have a religion. I grew up christian, but I don't agree with everything they preach. I guess I would consider myself spiritual because I find all religions interesting. They all have many underlying similarities.

    I love that! I would have to say Christian-Objectivist. Christianity lays the moral compass so that I can live my life objectively. Altruism not for me. Virtuous greed...... Yeah that's the stuff!! :-D

    Great comment. I think religion is far more than simply if you believe in god or not. Its a set of values by which a person governs there life. Without religion people are lost. My values come in part from capitalism and it is my financial religion. Other aspects come from my church and others still from objectivism, some from what I think to be true and correct rather than from any outside source. They all have to pass the litmus test of my own reasoning or they don't get it, and if they fail along the way they get kicked out.
