Polls show that only 16% of voters favor lowering funding for police; 65% favor keeping up funding for police.
Among the higher income group (over $100k/yr) on the other hand twice as many favor cutting police funding - those who live in safe places and can afford private security.

Me dino got hit again. Suppose it was the same perfect entity a flawed person with a dino moniker should be allowed to share the same planet with.
At least, as Robin Williams said in his movie, Popeye, "I have a sensk of humiligration."

Save for Open Range, me dino has never been all that impressed with Kevin Costner flicks (fell asleep watching oo-wee celebrated Dances With Wolves on a rented Blockbuster VHS), but do you recall "Build a ball field and they will come" in Field Of Dreams?
By that enacting that exact same process, change your moniker to Dinobrein and your tail will grow.
Don't worry about me lying. If that process doesn't work, you won't have a big time problem with wearing your pants.

                  DWW was Zzzzzzz.
Of Costner filcks, I liked Silverado best. Bull Durham was about equal to FoD. Draft Day wasn't horrible, but For The Love Of the Game was better.
For other baseball movies, how about It Happens Every Spring, A League of Their Own, Major League, Trouble With The Curve, Moneyball, The Rookie, and Mr. Baseball.

Me dino liked Silverado second best. Recall movie critics heralding Silverado to be the first western to come along after a few years.
What I never saw written was that far too many often drab and/or ridiculous Spaghetti Westerns (started by a far superior Clint Eastwood trilogy by director Sergio Leone) cranked out by Italy and usually shot in Spain had completely burned out interest in going to see a Western. Same thing happened after a Hercules flick starring Steve Reeves invented the "Swords and Sandals" made in Italy genre.

Living on $100,000/year won't buy security that replaces a police department, especially when the mob riots sweep through an area.

But they don't want to eliminate the police, they want to replace them with their own collectivist-statist thugs enforcing socialistic ethnic balkanization as the ideal society.

They have no idea of what it is like to live "practically" like that, even for those relatively well off now; but that isn't their concern. Their irrationalist idea of the "good" supersedes the requirements of life. That is why it is worse among those with higher incomes: they are the most educated and the intellectuals are responsible for the spread of the destructive ideas.

Who is they? Do you mean people that are conspiring. FYI conspiring means to make secret plans jointly to commit an unlawful or harmful act.
Your statement contradicts ALL of your rejections of what you dismiss as “conspiracy theory”. You can’t have it both ways.

"They" obviously means, in the context of the post responded to, the "protestors" who say they want to defund the police. Ideas embraced in a poll reflecting a social movement are not a "conspiracy".

That is another strawman. We all know that Antifa is not "grass roots". We also know that its violent followers don't dictate the contents of polls of voters or the actions of thousands of protestors around the country or the actions of criminals cashing in on the chaos. The polls freedomforall said he was describing were polls of "voters", not "rioters". Besides, the conspiracy is run by the CIA, which got bored after its conspiracy to create the Kavanaugh hearing circus.

There is no conspiracy between AP and Antifa. The virus is not a nazi conspiracy.

For those here who do have an interest in Ayn Rand, the role of philosophical ideas in the rise of fascist politics in Germany is described in Leonard Peikoff's The Ominous Parallels. He researched and wrote the book in response to the rise of the New Left in the late 1960s and early 70s when he (and Ayn Rand) saw the similarities in fundamental premises in this country. German fascism was not a secret criminal conspiracy operating in an intellectual vacuum and neither is the trend in American culture and politics today.

This law required AP to hire reporters who also worked for the Nazi party’s propaganda division. One of the four photographers employed by the Associated Press in the 1930s, Franz Roth, was a member of the SS paramilitary unit’s propaganda division, whose photographs were personally chosen by Hitler. AP has removed Roth’s pictures from its website since Scharnberg published her findings, though thumbnails remain viewable due to “software issues”.

June 1941, Nazi troops invaded the town of Lviv in western Ukraine. Upon discovering evidence of mass killings carried out by Soviet troops, German occupying forces had organised “revenge” pogroms against the city’s Jewish population.

Franz Roth’s photographs of the dead bodies inside Lviv prisons were selected upon Hitler’s personal orders and distributed to the American press via AP.

“Instead of printing pictures of the days-long Lviv pogroms with its thousands of Jewish victims, the American press was only supplied with photographs showing the victims of the Soviet police and ‘brute’ Red Army war criminals,” Scharnberg told the Guardian.

The most obvious consequence of this collapse was a huge rise in unemployment. Over the winter of 1929-30 the number of unemployed rose from 1.4 million to over 2 million. By the time Hitler became Chancellor in January 1933 one in three Germans were unemployed, with the figure hitting 6.1 million. Industrial production had also more than halved over the same period.

                      The rise of extremism

When people are unemployed, hungry and desperate, as millions were in Germany between 1930 and 1933, they often turn to extreme political parties offering simple solutions to their problems. Between 1930 and 1933 support for the extreme right-wing Nazis and the extreme left-wing communists soared.

By 1932 parties committed to the destruction of the Weimar Republic held 319 seats out of a total of 608 in the Reichstag, with many workers turning to communism. However, the real beneficiaries were the Nazis.

The New Yellow Slimes ran an op-ed that said that family members should disown other family members if they refused to support Black Lives Matter.
Yes, this is the same NYT that refused to run an op-ed from a US Senator that encouraged use of force to stop law breaking looters and arsonists.
That op-ed in favor of stopping law breaking looters was not acceptable to the NYT, who instead approved an op-ed that encourages Nazi-Germany style action against family members who disagree with law breaking looters.

It is surprising that cowardly CEO's ( for example, Wal-mart) surrender their right to free speech and pledge to donate millions to the thugs who run BLM?
They don't want their stores to be burned to the ground while the police who are controlled by coward Democrat mayors do nothing.
Instead the CEO's should be paying for armed private security forces to defend their property.

Remember, this has been going on for 4 years, the Google data says Black Lives Matter spiked at July 2016, and then a burp in 2018 at election time, and then now. Coincidence? The "Defund Police" is just a "genius" idea from the same cesspool that brought you COVID19. (See the video I posted, Adolf can give you the inside dope on it.....)

"Don't bother to examine a folly -- ask yourself only what it accomplishes." They don't want to defund the police. They want to destroy laws defending the rights of the individual, including property rights, and redistribute police-funding to their own political mob police enforcers.

It goes farther than that. If you are white, you are a racist. If you are white, you should not exist. Ballet dancers are called a product of white supremacy. No matter how nightmarish a demand you can invent, they are already there and pushing it further. Anything that white people have achieved will be twisted and held against them. And therefore they deserve anything done to them or taken from them.

I am a fan of police, but not all police.

The policeman that killed George Floyd needs to be turned in to Alpo. You can just watch that video and see the satisfaction the little pencil-necked Barney Fife had by holding down a person he had no chance of even slowing down without a badge, gun and cuffs. After the guy is on the ground, why does he need to sit on him? Useless member of the human race we can do without.

Defunding police over this, accomplishes nothing but reasserting government control. Doing this at the same time massive gun control bills are being prepared is a perfect harbinger for totalitarianism. You will not protect you. We will protect you.

Fiscal power is infinite. The 16th is the worst!

Although, to challenge the meme that is currently destroying the country, I'm not convinced his motivation was racial. He may well just be a bully and was showing off his 'toughness' to the younger cops.

I can easily imagine him doing the same thing to a white guy. Twice as many white people die in police custody as blacks.

Oh, I have no doubt you are right about that. Power is much more captivating than racism, particularly to those that never had it an crave it.

I know, but there are three times as many white people as blacks. I was looking for data on violence and death during/after arrests, and as a percentage of those arrested, it seems that blacks are more likely than whites to be harmed.
Reply | Mark as read | Parent | Best of... | Permalink
        • Posted by $ WilliamShipley 3 years, 9 months ago
It depends upon the arrested figures. The number of blacks vs whites who are arrested varies wildly by the crime, For example murder and robbery more blacks are arrested than whites. Drug abuses more than twice as many whites are arrested. In the violent crime the ratio is 1.7 so that would make whites more likely.

But these things don't always happen with violent crimes. This one was counterfeiting. So it may well be that statistically blacks are more likely to be harmed.

But it's not a massive difference. As a society the problem isn't racist cops abusing black people it's bully cops abusing the people they feel are powerless.

And there is usually some component of resistance to arrest to these -- in this case, a refusal to get into the police car. The concept of being picked on by the police may be increasing the likelihood of resistance.

            Agreed.

I'd like to have some better data to support my discussion with a few open-minded liberals, but I agree. Racism is not a problem. The best thing we can do is stop talking about it. Protests just make it worse.

The Dems, as usual, are using the black race as a power grab excuse. Obama perfected it, and Alinsky was his idol. Since Obama never lived as a black, was half white, and cared nothing for either race, it was easy. Now, to use those methods to set Marxism free to reign, Black Lives Matter, ANTIFA and Sunrise something in Minneapolis, are all Soros funded. Nothing he does is good, he is always using some race or another to destroy capitalism in the US.

We Marie Nancy Pelosi Antoinette syndrome as speaker of the house. You can probably guess that she has be phoning the Gov of Washington and the Mayor of Seattle to keep the occupation of chaz going. she probably keeping the propaganda going for defunding all police through out the country. Now, maybe we need the Purge ( tv series).

If we are going to defund the police we may as well defund the national guard. They were called out to protect and all they did,, like the police, were to stand abound with their hands in their pockets while thugs looted and burned.
