8th Grade Graduation Remind Me...

...Reminds me of what we've been through. This morning one of the underclassmen decorated out front porch to celebrate my son graduating 8th grade. The teachers, in this pandemic, are stopping by later to say their goodbyes to him. I remember my 8th grade graduation. Never really thought it was a big deal. But, watching my son discover the decorations on our porch this morning it really hit me. This is a kid who was severely ill as a baby. I remember the day we got the autism diagnosis. He had stopped talking, had retreated into his shell. We knew we probably had lost him...the only boy who could carry the family name into the future. But, my wife and I buckled down and dove head first into curing him. They said, and still say, you can't cure autism. They discourage experimental treatments under the guise that "they haven't been proven to work" as though a desperate mother has time to wait. They still say they don't know what could be causing all this autism...still 15 years later. But, there he stood this morning - handsome, fit, smiling and more socially aware than most of his peers. His recovery is unprecedented. Just thought I'd share.

If I ever decide to put a huge target on my back I'll write a book on how we did it...

Kudos to you! Curious if there is a link in timing to his vaccinations... (Black males are like 7 times more susceptible).
The movie Vaxxed really opened a lot of eyes... Hence it has been removed! LOL...

Congratulations to your son! We all have our goals and our milestones...

One day I hope to be able to clap to the rythm of a song (my daughter wont let me clap (in sync) in public, LOL).

    You should all be proud...

FWIW, my daughter did not "Walk" for her dual undergraduate degrees, dual honors colleges, etc... Even though the
President of the University PLEADED with her...

Her logic... "I will walk in May of 2020..."

(Guess who learned a life lesson?)

I have heard of several healings of autism. Medicine is something they practice at. We have a lot to teach them!
Keep it up! Teach others how!

That's what weighs on me. I've been pretty silent all these years about what I saw. But, for a time there, over a few years, families I never met would get a hold of me and ask me how to heal their child who just came down with autism. It was strange. My name was out there...just not public enough to get me crucified like some of the others who saw what I saw and went public.

Fortunately, both my boys were without autism and exhibited a better than average intelligence. But I have an autistic uncle who had to live through an era when persons like him were humiliated and called unpleasant names. He was a gentle soul who loved movies and lived mostly within his head. He feared being outside as he was frequently the target of beatings. He was tall and well-built and I'm sure could have defended himself well but he couldn't even grasp the concept.

People with autism are easy targets. There have been cases of cops beating the hell out of them. Bullies love it. My son got his black belt. His dad is a former heavyweight boxer...

    Congrats to you and yours.
The "experts" don't always know everything, even about their chosen fields. Sometimes, love and patience are better than all the expert opinions.
    You are obviously blessed.

God bless you. Thanks for sharing. At my clinic I tested children's hearing. A teacher asked me to test a child and she didn't tell me the child was autistic. When I held out my arms for the child she went ballistic. The father screamed at me and said some insulting things. I called that teacher and thanked her for her efforts but informed her it would have helped had she alerted me to the child's situation. I am a professional health care giver. It is sad that people try to hide from something that shouldn't be considered shameful.
