Advertising Karma Hits Corporate Media and the New York Times Calls for Bailout

"Can you imagine what “journalism” would look like if it had no market pressure whatsoever? If you believe, as I do, that the media is as irresponsible, dishonest, destructive, and dangerous as it can possibly get — we’re both wrong. If you remove all market incentive and pressure, if these outlets in no way have to attract and retain customers in order to stay in business, if earning the respect and trust of news consumers is no longer a concern, we haven’t seen anything yet in the arena of an irresponsible, dishonest, destructive, and dangerous media.

Look at how much the Washington Post has collapsed into a smoldering pile of fake news upon the arrival of its sugar daddy, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos.

Look at the destruction far-left CNN has wrought, not only to its own shattered ratings and reputation, but in places like Baltimore and Ferguson, because it’s paid through a rigged cable TV system as opposed to having to court viewers.

Now imagine this cancer of no accountability spreading everywhere at the local level."

    Yes, karma.

I notice Gannett is mentioned specifically. Decades ago we had two competitive newspapers in my home town (city) and Gannett bought them out. It deep-sixed the evening paper and kept the morning so now we had one paper and no competition. The leftward slide was almost immediate and by the mid '90s I refused to pay money for it and cancelled my subscription. Apparently a lot of other folks did the same. Today it's a skinny little rag that is barely a shadow of its bygone days. Too bad.

Edit add: Yes, karma. The little rag appealed to people that want everything for free and don't buy it and it alienated producers who refuse to pay for a pro looter pulp.

My wife says she knew Debbie Gannett when she (Debbie) was a difficult teenager, and was "not surprised" to discover that she had become criminal lawyer and then a state attorney in New Jersey. Presumably a Democrat.

"That way, we can rescue the only thing worth saving about America’s gutted, largely mismanaged local newspaper companies — the journalists."

Really? There is no such thing as a journalist any more. I would be delighted if all the left pandering, irresponsible, dishonest, destructive, and dangerous bots, parroting the party line of the Dems would disappear tomorrow.

I started listing their names here but there are so many.

Maybe after getting their pink slips they'll start looking for decent work, not that I can think of any I would hire them for.

    Bye-bye!
