Unfortunately, doctors and epidemiologists also were responsible for many of the scariest projections and much of the agitation for police state measures. It’s as if the world’s auto mechanics decided that cars’ useful lives would be meaningfully extended and public safety enhanced if everyone was forced to drive 25 mph. Probably true, but think of the costs in time and money if we had to drive that slowly. The mechanics have their prospective, and doctors and epidemiologists have theirs. What’s been lacking is broader perspectives that reckon, or even acknowledge the response’s staggering costs to liberty and the economy.

You are correct - This is but a trial run for a Global Socialistic Dictatorship through fear-mongering. The real test of its efficacy will come when it is next attempted. If enough of the worlds citizenry meekly surrender as it has with Coronavirus then the GSD will be fait accompli. If enough people engage in mass defiance, the dictators will have to decide whether to emulate China during the Tiananmen uprising or back down. What do you think they will do?

If enough defy, this time they will back down. Next time, not so sure.

I've often wondered what the precise components of history's popular uprisings would look like if I could write them down. Are there commonalities in the American, French, and Russian revolutions, Tiananmen uprisings, Hong Kong and Iranian riots that might help in predicting the next one? Or are they soo complex that the only answer is "when the people have had enough?

Personally, I think the components are very simple. People just get so sick of being used and controlled, they revolt. That doesn't mean any revolt comes easy. The thought of giving your life for freedom is not a simple decision. People will tolerate until past the point of tolerance and once it becomes inevitable that death at the hand of the government is close, people revolt. Kill or be killed, doesn't matter anymore. Just like the Venezuelan people who don't appear to be at that stage yet, (which I don't understand) we have a long way to go and allot of oppression before we reach that state. It could happen pretty quickly here though based on the state of freedom we are used to and how we got here.

"...Prudence, indeed, will dictate that governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and, accordingly, all experience has shown, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed..." Maybe putting down worldwide protests were one of the objectives. Millions were protesting in Hong Kong. Millions more with the yellow jackets in France and Italy.

Good point! The major problem for those seeking to establish a Global Socialist Dictatorship is how to prevent those protests from becoming revolutions. Animals are classifiable by the quote "eyes on the side, likes to hide. eyes in front, loves to hunt." Humans are definitely of the latter type. So when we are pushed we push back. If they can achieve their goal of the confiscation of all individually owned weapons around the globe, then they can allow local protesters to blow off steam without endangering their Utopia. Then the bloodbaths will truly begin and uttering the phrase Individual Rights will be punishable by death.
