Best explanation for NYC as an epicenter or 'hot spot' of the worldwide Coronavirus problem is that NYC is super-crowded.
It is. As a result of Democratic liberal-left housing policies for decades:
1. Only city to continue rent control/rent stabilization ever since WWII, forcing hundreds of thousands of landlords to abandon apartments because of forced losses.
2. Sky-high taxes at every level and every kind: state income, city income, state sales, city sales, real estate, excise, and on and on: huge impact on the construction industry.
3. Draconian zoning regulations of every kind to halt building, limit building, make construction super expensive,
4. mind-boggling bureaucracy for building requirements and regulations necessitating "contacts" at every level and payoffs.
5. union and safety regulations far beyond the average for cities, increasing costs.
6. extensive low-quality, crowded public housing.
Yes...yes...it is true, NYC is the world epicenter of the virus because it is the world epicenter of liberal-left economic intervention that is 'world-class" in its destructive potential. New York State and City are FAMOUS for 'world class' government intervention in every way that could increase the cost and decrease the pace of building ordinary housing for ordinary people.
Result: a city among the most crowded in anywhere in housing. And, of course, that makes 'social distancing" EVEN AT HOME far less effective.
Gov. Cuomo and resoundingly Mayor De Blasio have supported every possible policy described above. They and their leftist Democratic predecessors bear the chief responsibility for the city's vulnerability to this tragedy.
