Quid pro quo, by a ruthless practitioner. No wonder they know it when they see it. Watched the "Life, Liberty, and Levin" segment on Fox Network last night. I knew the Depression lasted until the initiation of hostilities for WW 2, but I never realized the abysmal depths he went to to turn the US into a socialist state. His elitist attitude was clearly evident and has seemed to have been transmitted whole to today's generation of democrats and statists. The guest was Burton Folsom from Hillsdale College who is a noted authority on FDR. If you have not seen the segment, I urge you to take a look.

    Ah, yes, FDR, the marxist millionaire.
    Because of him, the depression lasted years longer than it should have, and the federal government grew into the behemoth it is today.
    May he rot in hell.

    Based on what I've seen/heard I've come to just assume FDR was a communist. He certainly was surrounded by them.

      It would explain why he gave Stalin such a pass on his invasion of Poland (the second one which was supposed to be a liberation) despite Churchill's urgings.

        There is a story about Churchill- he said if the Russians keep advancing when Germany has been defeated, we should give the German foot-soldiers a feed, a rifle, and face them east. The plan did not proceed, either the Stalin knew when to stop, or FDR was in charge.

          Churchill doesn't give that exact quote in his history of WW II, but he does detail how he advocated strongly to start working to set borders long before the war was over to head off Stalin's aggressive expansionism. Unfortunately, Roosevelt kept putting it off and before Churchill could do much he was removed as Prime Minister and Britain basically receded from the public sphere.

    One thing that wasn't discussed was that Social Security was FDR's response to Huey Long's idea of mandatory government support to the aged. There are still some that suspect Long's assassination was a hit job ordered by FDR.

    I wish I had a TV I could use. My reception went kaput when they went digital; now the TV is gone. But I hear Mark Levin on the radio. I formulated my political creed when I was about 12 (individual rights) but I did not know how to validate it until I discovered Ayn Rand. But between those two things, I read about FDR, and I did not see any particular jusification for the programs and governments actions he brought in. He was never a hero to me.
