LOL, absolutely correct! When I was in China I went to several seafood restaurants and I saw some stuff being consumed I'm sure would kill me or at least make me hurl, LOL!

Asian cultures put many different dishes on the table that Westerners may have problems "enjoying".

Take Japan, for example. They eat everything that the sea offers: sea urchins, weeds, stars, etc, in addition to the fish. I wasn't as much adventurous as to try them when there.

Regarding eating everything to fend of starvation, the Chines are no longer starving. At least not by the information their government spreads.

During WW2, Europe starved: people were eating rats, mice, horses, anything they were able to catch. But those times are gone.

The Chinese are not forced to eat cats, dogs, bats or other species any more. But they still do.

China is overcrowded, underfed, stressful totalitarianism for the commoners, and has terrible plumbing. That's why, IMO.

I understand that the Spanish Flu actually hung around for a few flu seasons.

Perhaps not to condone "barbaric customs", but I can offer an explanation. It is still within living memory of many Chinese the time of massive starvation and malnutrition where getting something to eat, anything to eat, was imperative to survival for yourself and your loved ones. What we may call a "barbaric custom", to them was getting to live one more day. When I was working in China I had a conversation with an older Chinese coworker and he told me about some of the worst times. Although today the "normal" food supply is back on line, the "barbaric customs" have not entirely been discarded.

With all that said, you are absolutely correct about the element of mysticism causing the foolish slaughter of various species. That has nothing to do with survival, for sure. It is pure idiocy.

People's eating habits are revolting in China and in Asia for that matter.

The magic healing and sex-enhancing hoax cost the lives of thousands if not millions of wild animals.

The way these animals are treated exhausts all animal cruelty laws.

I don't hold any praise for our own meat industry and I wish there was a way to avoid killing animals to put food on our tables. Slaughtering racehorses is one of the criminal activities in this area.

I saw a video some time ago where Chinese were collecting cats on the streets to slaughter them.

It is one thing if they have to pay the price for this barbaric custom but it is still another to expose the whole world to it.

Anybody gave thoughts to why so many viral epidemic originated in China?

SARS came from there and now COVID-19.

According to research bats play a crucial role in its spreading.

The majority of "predictions" claim that even if the epidemic subsides, it'll return over and over in time during 2020 and 2021.

Which is not "normal".

The Spanish flu came and went. So did SARS and MERS.

Why would this bug return? Will there be new outbreaks once people resume mobility again?

More detail. The police want to see a letter/paper from your employer explaining (I think) that you work for an essential service - to justify you driving around(?) This is per the story of my friend's employee stopped while driving home from their skilled nursing business.

Thanks for the info. I'm not an expert on this subject, but I did say "other forms of consumable alcoholic beverages" in my post. Up to now I can only go by what I've seen and heard over the decades and my reply to Abaco was also meant to have an element of humor in it in reference to his beer supply to get through this crisis.

And, can we PLEASE have an honest conversation about controlling our borders now? All my lefty friends have been staggering around for years saying "We have too many people. I'm not having kids. Too many kids." are now more panicked than ever. I find this interesting because I've always said the same thing...Don't worry about overpopulation. Mother Nature will take care of that. She always does. Maybe this is that.
