    Agreed, the point is to address the problem of moral sanction for what is good. No one doubts Simone's work ethic, creativity and talent. If our goal is to work toward a culture that embraces reason, acts rationally, and celebrates achievement, including earned profit, drawing comparisons with contemporary heroes will hopefully awaken the reader.

    Agreed, as long as 'earned' has its proper meaning, not the usual accounting meaning.

    Success in sport and entertainment may indicate good values in trainers, coaches, managers and promoters, not so in the celebrities they work on.
    'They play Einstein, then they think they are Einstein'.
    Rumor- A big celebrity, B grade actress(?), after marrying into a good family, has asked her agent for a 'hero' role. She thinks she is a hero (sic) after confronting Granny.

    Thanks for reading, and the comments. Of course we don't have a free market economy, and I didn't imply we have one. The reference to "earned profit" alludes to Francisco's talk with Rearden. Also, I think the parallel is legit, its about rigid principles guiding the achievement of rational goals and proving how life should and could be.

    Good thoughts, however the parallel between life, sport, entertainment is false.
    As for
    there is an objective scoring system in free market economies, and no one needs to fabricate it – earned profit,
    not so, my memory is of Francisco speaking in Atlas Shrugged saying something like -it is not the amount of money but how you earned it. I concede you may be referring to the future with a proper free market economy, we have a long way to go.

    Ayn Rand's sense of justice is a big differentiating factor of Objectivism (and central to justice in The Gulch) relative to our dominant culture. The primacy of existence is another. What are some of the others?
