Fascinating. Just more example of the "divide and conquer" mentality of the left.

I tell my students this all the time. Hispanic is not a Race it is a Culture. Many White Americans are genetically identical to what Hispanics call themselves. I myself am a mix of American Indian and European making me genetically Hispanic. At the beginning of the school year my students always want to call me Racist White guy.(for their definition they are correct) I wear a lot of Hawaiian shirts and my Grandfather was very dark, so I show them his picture and claim to be Cuban. That immediately ends the Racist bullcrap. Which actually shows how Racist that they are. Not that they would ever accept the truth of the matter.

Excellent article. Illuminates how identity politics are just more manifestations of collective thought. Something I was carefully cultivated in understanding over 50 years ago thanks to Ayn Rand. But this article begins to pull all the threads of the origins of this crap together. The Comintern, to Ford Foundation, to Saul Alinsky tactics; through the decades of the 20th Century, this insidious "progressivism" is poisoning the human potential.

I like to think positively, however. Now in 2020, we can indeed have perfect vision.

When me an old dino was a kid, I never heard the term "Hispanic."
Continental Americans of Spanish descent were called "Latins" or "Latinos" from "Latin America though that never made much sense to my simple dino mind.
According to Google Translate, they do not say "Quid pro quo" to say "Something for something." That say "Ago por ago."
And that's been going on long "ago" now. So how does that "Caesar"?

I think we should do away with 'labels'. There is so much racism still today. Why can't we all be just Americans or Other? Does color really matter?

I worked in Medical Clinics on Army bases. Good Army wife. One time a pregnant 17 year old Georgia Peach protested when she saw one of our doctors was a black Obstetrician. I said, 'Honey when you go into labor, you won't care what color he is. You will only care that he is there for you!' I made sure I didn't insult the doctor by putting the little idiot with him.

It matters in politics. They naturally divide people into voting blocs, constituencies, special interest groups. This is the nature of politics. The Constitution was created to prevent it from devolving too far, and why Ayn Rand warned about the need for objective law and politicians with very high moral integrity. Sadly, people who aspire to rule others do not own high moral integrity.

"Ayn Rand warned about the need for objective law and politicians with very high moral integrity."

        That is an oxymoron.

There are no politicians on this Earth with high moral integrity. They sell out to the first bidder who offers more power to them.

    Great link!

In many documents now the term is "White Hispanic". They are still differentiated from "White Caucasian"

"“a common struggle to defend the immediate, basic interests of the working class against the bourgeoisie.”

    Yeah, we know that crap.

The same slogan that the Bolsheviks used to set the roots of communism.

I agree with the main claim that the term hispanic is confusing, although I'm not knowledgeable about its origins described in the article.
"many Mexican Americans had traditionally seen themselves as white. "
Mexico and other Latin American countries have people of all "races": European, African, Indigenous, and mixtures of those. They're all Mexican and have a Mexican accept, i.e. that slow cadence and words like "¡aguas!" and "¿mande?". I put race is scare quotes b/c the whole concept is dubious. Someone with origins in Norway is supposedly the same race as someone from Sicily, but if you take the ferry from Sicily to Tunisia, people there are a different race. It's all arbitrary and cultural.

Hispanic is the weirdest one. There are hispanics with very light skin, very dark black skin, and everything in between, all with their regional accents of Spanish.

No such thing as a different race of humans. One is of the human species or not.

I have a tendency to view a different (race) as a species like a Dolphin with self introspective abilities. We don't know if they do but you get the picture as to what a different racial entity would look like and function like.
