What can we do?

After reading a great number of submissions about today´s actual society and global situation, I started to meditate about what can we, readers of Atlas Shrugged, do about these problems. I´m not asking about ideas that are extremely difficult to accomplish, but small things that can help this world to make a change. I thought of one that may seem quite unproductive. It is to "convince" other people to read this book, so as to they think and see things like we do.

Easy: Join or start a local activist (action) group (not another email/blog sounding board). Our group is the smallest in the Bay Area but we have helped pass Measure B (Pension Reform = Keep under control unsustainable public employees union skyrocketing retirement costs) and help elect one solid city council member. We are now focused on the gravest threat against individual liberty/private property rights, Agenda 21 tyranny deployed in our region under the name One Bay Area. Under the pretext of Environment/Sustainability, Smart Growth, "Open Space", "Wild Land Habitat", Social Justice/"Affordable" Housing/ Public Transportation, those who want to master over us are not satisfied owning the central banks and having all the money in the world: They (unelected bureaucrats) are now in our backyard (and yours) coercing our elected representatives at city and county levels to force the residents of each town to sponsor their 300 Billion Dollar stack and pack subsidized housing throughout the Bay Area linked by light rail. The masterminds behind this clever plan are trying hard to collapse us under the unsustainable artificially driven private property (homes, personal transportation, business) until everyone becomes dependent on government "benefits". You either own property, or become property. The good news is that several small groups throughout the bay area (such as ours) have become watch dogs, show/speak up at public meetings, support our elected representatives, use media to show the public discontent and excessive spending, speak up against unelected "ghost governments" usurping our elected representative democracy and constitutional rights. Much more, but you get the idea. My point: Stop blogging, get a small group together, get involved in various commissions, run for any kind of local office (open space, school board, water district, city council, or identify and walk precincts couple hours each week for someone who is not intimidated by public office and able to articulate and advocate for a truly sane and sustainable free and prosperous world. We need to organize and take action: To stop the fraud at execution level and begin to install our people in all big and small decision making offices. Due to the fact that most people are sound asleep, there is not a whole lot of competition for smaller, lesser known commissions and public offices. If you need more information, cooperation or mentoring, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Liberty is like cleaning your bathroom, it has to be done, it is not enough to talk about it. Democracy works better when less people ignore it. What are you afraid of? Seriously. Most office holders are not any smarter or resourceful than the least of libertarians ; ) Why is the natural man's tendency to sheep his pants and give in to irrational, crippling fear (for doing the right and rational thing)? As in sports, if your team doesn't show up, the opposing team wins by default. Go play, make friends, share sanity, be a light, enjoy instead of fearing and feeling helpless. If I can assist anyone by sharing what consistently worked for us, I'd be happy to share real life experience (failure too). PS. Not speaking to anyone particularly, just being a friend in bringing our convictions to the democratic and constitutional process. Best of luck to all!

If you want to preserve American liberties as I think Ayn Rand would have wanted then now is the time to stand up and oppose the UN weapons ban treaty & Senator Feinsteins latest anti gun law which obama and the left wingers have concocted in order to deprive Americans of their Constitutional Rights,

Great post, Mellis. Thank you. These are the ideals, and the philosophy which I teach in my own home, because it is my fervent hope that the two children I am raising, and will send out into the world will take this out with them, and send it out, and there could be a wave of rational thought and behaviour sent out from them, to touch that many more minds, and maybe, just maybe, we can turn this hulking great vacuum that has become our govt, around.

Go on strike in any small way you can. Do not contribute to any statist program. Consent of the victim is their greatest tool. Never give it.

Study. Learn something new; a new skill. When you have a skill that is needed by society, you will be able to trade that for some compensation. Medical, gardening, carpentry, and automechanics are some that come to mind.

Most people who feel like us have already read AS, and if they haven't, they feel the same way. The real problem is the education system and to change that, it will take years. You can get involved in the school board, join the NRA, get involved in your legislature (find out what bills are being introduced and voice your opinion),start with people around you and work out from there. Just a few thoughts if you haven't given up on humanity.

Thanks for the suggestions, and I would like to add that since we are an important number of people who think alike, we could do domething really big if we orginized something. Maybe something can be done.....

There are lots of people who think like us, but we are a minority. Groups in your area you probably know about who believe in small government and freedom. There is no middle of the road now. It is disheartening, to say the least, and most of us that have been involved, see the end is near.

Britain was the first country to outlaw slavery. they partnered with spain on this. 1818.
I was agreeing with the other things you said by quoting important phrases used throughout US history in response to being a taxation slave

Having a Queen is irrelevant. The government is in control, or rather, the EU is. The Queen and Royal Family are now just a tourist attraction.

What powers do you think they have? You don't need to tell me that we are anything but a free people - I am completely aware of that, seeing as I'm English living in England, seeing corrupt governments whichever flavour they may be! We can never be free in socialist Europe, and for sure not as long as we are part of the EU(SSR)

Re approval to any new prime minister. Yes, she does, but it's just for theatrical purposes really - it would have to be something very very serious for her not agree. Re slapping down a law - it's just theory. In practice, if this happened the government of the day would just force her abdication. The monarchy is there by popular consent and therefore can be overthrown, as has happened historically. I'm more concerned about our mindset of subservience to the EU than I would ever be to what is really just a figurehead of the nation.

Well, looks like they, the masters of society, take good care of destroying themselves. Look at the economy and the balance sheets world-wide. That in itself will create a wake-up call for individuals all around the world and expose any and all leaders for what they really are, social manipulators and outright criminals earning their fortunes via rule of fear and faked compassion!

Reading AS does not convince people to think and see things as you do. Most who read it reject parts of it. It has sold a lot. The movies were a flop. Join Tea Party Patriots and get into the streets. Stop the attitude that you'll take your ball and go home unless someone agrees with everything you do.

What can we do? We can continue to be productive individuals. The larger and more intrusive the government becomes the higher the number of individuals finding it offensive and wanting to resist will grow. Eventually a tipping point will occur and that means the elected officials will either be voted out of office (based on a belief in liberty and individualism) or 1776 Part II will happen.

I quite agree and our founding fathers planned for that possibility by including the second Amendment to the Constitution. Now is the time to oppose the anti firearm left wing socialist dictators like obama and senator feinstein along with the UN and its weapons ban treaty. These are the evil one's who would deprive you of every freedom you hold dear.
