I'm the only one in my neighborhood who has firearms. The only other one who could protect himself is a Japanese swordmaster who lives up the street from me. Many of the retirees in the area could not defend themselves because they are afraid of firearms.

Me dino would be way more afraid of waiting for the police to arrive while home invaders are kicking down that last door between them and me.
But that's just me. And you too, I assume.

Although it happened many years ago, add my rifle to the saga of protection with a firearm. Break in thieves do not like the sound of a slide racking a round into the chamber. I, on the other hand, enjoyed the sound of booted feet running away fast through the crunching snow. I do carry, have for years.

Me dino can recall three times when making an AR-15 go "Click!-Click!" proved to be a useful attention getter when I was often the back gate tower officer during the last half of my 21-year career at an Alabana maximum security prison.

Well. I have lived in this town for 47 years and something finally got my attention. A police detective watched while a man knocked a woman to the ground and shot her dead on the main street of our town. One block from the Police Station. The perp was shot and transported to the hospital.

I am in support of our right to bear arms but I do think one limit on gun ownership should be that of Domestic Violence. This couldn't have been an isolated incident to get so quickly violent. I would wager there was a history here.

Me dino supports current laws that denies gun ownership to convicted felons, though criminals DO get their hands on guns anyway.
I'd also support anyone with an provable history of domestic violence to be denied firearms. There is a gray area here.
A false accusation could be made out of spite or whatever.

I was thinking about this just this morning. Things are getting crazier and crazier around here. My son and I often practice golf late at night at the one lighted facility in this region. It's a great place, but is surrounded with hobo camps, and crooks. I remember when I was trying to get out there to demo a new club after work one day and couldn't enter because there was a shootout with the cops in the hotel across the street. Crazier and crazier. This morning the thought occurred to me that I should keep my S&W 40 in my golf bag when I'm out there. My heart sinks a little at that thought.

You will feel safer. I did after I armed myself when my life was being threatened during the Seventies.
I've been carrying various concealed firearms for the rest of my life so far.

I pursued a CCW here. But, I got so frustrated with the process that I walked out of it all. I jumped through all the hoops and have the cleanest record - I look like I'm in the witness protection program. But, they purposely delay you until your initial 2-day training expires - then request that you requalify and submit to another background check just to make sure. I said, "Forget it" and walked out of the Sheriff's building. This, of course, after they subjected me to the most thorough background interview I've ever experienced. It's a joke. I'll get it when I leave Cali...

As long as you're not a convicted felon, it is simple as pie to CCW in Alabama. The sheriff will even annually mail a reminder to renew to collect that $5. Or is it $7 now? A postcard will jog me dino memory this coming May.
Buying a firearm with a clean record is easy too. After you decide which one you want, you browse the gun store or play with your Smart phone while the sales person makes a quick phone call and gets back to you to complete the sale.

I think laws against felons owning guns should be changed to only violent felons. I know several pretty harmless folks who've been convicted of mail fraud on what I consider shaky grounds, but it is a federal felony, and they're denied ownership of firearms. Entrepreneurs are often accused of this offense, usually by disgruntled investors who claim they were misled by progress reports (although the misleading is usually a case of misreading by them). Once you're accused of this offense, a conviction is almost always assured, as it's based on the feelings of the accuser about how you abused their trust. Anyhow, only violent felons should be denied ownership of firearms.

try buying a gun with a domestic violence conviction. cant be done. that is why it is so impotant to figfht all false domestic violence accusations. never plead guilty because it is the easiest thing to do. it will huant you later.

Happens every day, and sometimes it doesn't happen because of a deterring threat. For example, I have three big dogs (nice, but bark), guns, and someone casing my house if not going to want to show up when I'm home. They go somewhere else.

However, these facts don't support the unspoken totalitarian objective :
We, the government have all the power
You the people (victims) should appeal to we the government for your needs
We the government will hand out stuff, after we eat first.

Dino, I'll have to admit, the post got my attention half due to the double entendre.
