The gun grabbers are counting on the law abiding to be, well, law abiding. However, that may not come out as expected. When New York state made ownership of high capacity magazines illegal, and invited everyone to please turn them in, estimates were that less than 5% complied. Law enforcement across the state preemptively told the governor that they would not participate in house to house confiscation efforts, and the governor pretended that the law was successful.

What makes confiscation highly unlikely is that in order to force compliance, there would have to be a police state apparatus bigger than the Defense Department, putting the Gestapo to shame. The effort would cost trillions of dollars, and result in more deaths from violent resistance than any number of deaths saved by the gun removal.

The goal of a socialist state is to make everyone a criminal, to be arrested at will as suits the state. It is a government ruled by fear. I prefer that the government remains fearful of its citizens.

Do you really think there would be a lot? I know a lot of people are willing to meekly submit to tyranny, but I don't think they are generally gun owners.

Criminals, by definition, won't obey the law. It's the law-abiding people who are more likely to comply.

Yes, some conservatives can definitely be converted but IMO the majority of that movement is beyond saving and needs to be allowed to die off.
Remember it was conservatives who set themselves against Rand when she published Atlas Shrugged. They knew that the jig was up and their faux-political movement was going to be exposed for what it was. Also, they'd rather socialism win than have to give up Jesus.
Today's conservatives are in a MUCH WORSE state than they were in Rand's time, in many ways.
I think the Objectivist movement should focus on Silicon Valley instead. These people get life. They are rational people. They just don't understand politics or integration, but this has never been presented to them.
Instead they are stuck between democrats and Jesus-democrats (ie conservatives), so it should be unsurprising that Silicon Valley thinks of itself as "progressive."
My biggest criticism of groups like ARI is that they have not realized this and have not focused their efforts in the right area.
