"Responsible" Washington―What's Your Plan?

So, “responsible” Washington, what’s the plan? More taxes? More money to Washington? More spending? More vote buying? More corruption? More blue-ribbon, bipartisan commissions? More fruitless negotiations? More can-kicking? Anyone with a two digit or higher IQ knows the answer: somebody is not going to get what they have been promised, but it is not going to happen until after the Titanic hits the iceberg. Only then will it be possible, as a matter of necessity, to tell all those counting on “their” government that “their” government is broke, busted, bankrupt. For once, “responsible” Washington will be telling the truth. It is hard―no, it is impossible―not to believe that this is what much of “responsible” Washington wants. An immensely wealthy, immensely powerful aristocracy of influence and pull, displaying itself to the impoverished, cringing masses, kept in their place by the NSA and the ever expanding police state. One of the many flaws of this insane design: if the parasites kill the host, where does their next meal come from? A better plan for the slimy kleptocrats who want to save their own skins: take the money and get the hell out of Dodge right now, while the getting is still good. For the rest of us? We will be left wishing the Tea Party had won.

Hey - I learned a new word: contretemps.
When an individual is in debt up to their eyeballs with no hopes of possible repayment, measures that stop and reduce spending are sane. The Tea Party Republicans got blasted because the government shutdown supposedly threatened default by stopping them from writing the check that pays down interest on the debt. How hypocritical these criticisms are. When the government is authorized to start spending money again, the government turns around and cuts that check, and then has their credit limit raised and spends ten times as much money racking up new debt. If the critics were so interested in financial responsibility, how come they aren't expressing angst with all the new debt?
Where is the new money coming from since it won't be Taxes? They are coming after your retirement funds, people. And your bank accounts.
