Can we really believe the Russians?

    That may be the case, if they have an appropriate food source (unsure what that is...). I was mostly responding to the outrageous claim that sea plankton was being raised from the ocean by air currents up to the International Space Station, which orbits at roughly 260 miles above sea level...

    I got the impression that they were still alive and actually increasing in number - in the vacuum and relative barrenness of space.

    As far as I know, these trace amounts are only on Russian segment hardware in a few places. That indicates loose quality control resulting in contamination on the ground prior to launch...
