I am more comfortable with that being 'in the future' than being 'now', but if this is the case...I don't get a choice. To me, the turning point is when fast food restaurants turn into robotic-cook vending machines and when autodrive cars deliver packages and pizza.

There is still some room to go before we get there...

Posted by $ jlc 10 years, 7 months ago to Rush Reveals BIG Story He's 'Been Holding' To See If Media Would Cover (It Didn't)
The Lament (nice term) is based on the premise that the liberals are actually philosophically correct. The Collaborative Conservatives are just saying, "Media that advertises the actual non-liberal opinions of the people whom I am supposed to be representing is interfering with my getting 'a slice of the pie'."

Romney wants to see himself as the secret heir-apparent to the Democrats, allowing a change of name of the reigning party, but preserving the same ideology. This requires that both parties be on the same team, and pass the baton back and forth occasionally to indicate the token presence of a two-party system.

All is not lost (said ironically), because what this is actually about is 'power'. Were the shoe on the other foot, and Conservatism the popular philosophy, you would see the same migration happening to the Liberals. The most difficult thing to obtain is a set of parties that have distinctly different philosophies, even if one of them is not 'winning' at the moment. All that Romney is saying is, "I want to Win."

As someone who does broadsword fighting and jousting as hobbies, I cannot complain about other people being fascinated with older forms of sports or technology. Technology? Well, yes, I also do spinning (drop spindle) and metalwork. I would love to learn more flint knapping; primitive fire-starting is a hoot, but I am not very good at it...must learn more.

What is the difference? I have no agenda other than having fun. I always love the tales of the Knights of the Round table, and being able to play in a sub-culture that remembers honor and chivalry (without including sexism, racism, religious persecution or the Bubonic Plague) is a great vacation.

So bravo for ancient sports, but let's do without the political agenda.

Opposed as accurate statements or as philosophical directions? "Survival of the fittest" and "might makes right" are both observably true. As such, who or what approves of them are moot.

I agree with johnpe that Ayn Rand's works are good examples of a fitness test: In spite of their being socially unacceptable, they have been successful in proliferating.

Game theory has actually examined this question: If the interactions between players are either unique or anonymous, the greatest benefit is to act unethically. If the interactions between players is not anonymous and is ongoing, then the most profitable behavior is ethical.

No. Quite old. Here is an article (just grabbed it; did not vet carefully; prob hundreds of studies, since 1980's).

So, in addition to stressing their lungs with smoke, pot users suppress the immune response that would protect them against pneumonia and bronchitis. Most of the long term pot users I have known have had problems with those diseases.

I have known a couple of people like that when they smoke weed, but more of them on the low end of the spectrum.

I would go about it in the other direction: there are only a few drugs that should not be generally available - mainly the 3rd generation and above antibiotics. We should train people how to use drugs correctly, not differentiating between street and med drugs.

Pot use does seem to lower the immune response, and I have noticed less of an ability to adapt in many pot users - but that could be self selection. Not my business; theirs.

Jan, does not use it (or want to)

OK. OK. That is good. It does not cover my falling in love with a Neanderthal, but it does take care of my breaking my partner's toe last week in jujitsu.

    Deal.

Thank you, jabuttrick. This is the sort of clarification I was hoping for. So, 'poor judgement' is not a crime, but each of the organizations that was not granted timely tax-exempt status could sue her in civil court?

OK. I had to look this up. Apparently, onions are not toxic to rats: I found an experiment that gave 'ripe onion juice' to rats to study its anti-diabetic effect (slight to moderate reduction in glycemic index at 3hr). Since the rats did not die...

"Poor judgement" can be a crime. That is the basis for malpractice suits and poor judgement in a professional context was the basis for suits brought against the executives of banking and stock institutions, was it not?

This is a neat idea. It almost makes me want to yank the passenger seat out of my Jeep and put a nifty 3D printed storage unit there...or maybe a small storage and an inboard stair/ramp for my aging dogs to load up easier...or how about a hot tub. That's it: A hot tub and a self driving car.

    Can do!

Yes, I too am fond of all but the really worst pizzas. And I too have gone Paleo and non-gluten and only eat a piece a few times a year (only lost 15 lbs, though). Calif Pizza Kitchen has non-gluten crusts, if that makes a difference to you.
