I have a confession. The other day (you can find this on the chart) Moderna stock when up 144%. A couple days before I saw that they had gotten the first actual approval for an mRNA vaccine (the rest were just forced upon the population with an emergency authorization...not really vetted) for the flu shot...just in time for this season. Then, Moderna released a press release, again, stating success with customized melanoma treatment. I stay tuned to that development as melanoma runs in my family and I've had three surgeries for it (which is rare...). Seeing a government-favored phama company with this activity is just too good, so I bought a little of the stock. Well, I got out of a meeting in Tahoe a couple days later, headed over the hill to the oldest bar in Nevada for my one beer on the way home and, while walking in noticed that I just made $15K overnight. I pushed "sell" and bought a round of drinks for everybody in the bar. Ultimately, these funds will go to a vaccine-injured young man. And, I do think that 144% jump was fueled by algos tuned into key words in the media.

Good article! Growing up in the 50s and 60s I understood "melting pot" as a mixing of similar European peoples into an American culture. My neighborhood was such a melting pot as I am Scots-Irish decent and my friends were German, Polish, Italian, English and French. We all had the same "American" goals in life. It worked quite well. Producing, not pillaging, was what we were about.
