I once answered a question in a "Social Studies" class when asked where Columbus landed on his first trip. I quoted Ogden Nash, "He studied China and China's lingo, And promptly bumped into Santa Domingo." I was sent to the principle's office with a note saying I was "acting smart" in class. I can imagine what would have happened to me if this woman was a teacher and I was in her class. I probably would have had to take up permanent residence in the principle's office. (I wonder if I would have done better by acting dumb).

Herb, I wondered if there were other "acting smart" kids in classrooms when I was in school. I think the teachers were perplexed how to handle those students who didn't go along with the accepted seriousness of the classes material. I posed too many "why?" questions in classes, I guess.

When I got to the principle's office, I was taken over by the Administrative Assistant (known by his abbreviated signature as Admiral Ass). I was very tempted to let my tongue loll out of my mouth, look at him cross-eyed and say, "But I'm alright now."

My favorite such story about "acting smart" in class was in 1st grade. The other smart kid in the class and I had rolled our eyes at the third mistake in two days our "teacher" had made in addition of two numbers each less than 10. I asked him "Should I offer to teach the class?", knowing full well I would get paddled. He said to go ahead, and of course, I said, "Maam. That was the third addition mistake you have made in the last couple of days. Do you mind if I teach the class?" After a spanking with a paddle, I knew that I was on the right path.

Knuckles rapped with either a wooden ruler or a thick pointer administered by the "penguin"in the classroom or the one in charge. I know someone will understand that reference to a teacher. They did set me on a path of questioning all things, for which I thank them.

And this my friends is exactly why we have the 2nd Amendment. There may come a day when people like this "brainiac" rise to clutch at the real reigns of government. Some call it next Tuesday.

The truly sad testament to this statement will be the number of people who agree. And they will continue to agree right up to the moment that a Republican occupies the WH. Whoa Nellie, the story will flip immediately.

The inmates are running the asylum. EHN clearly is the coo coo bird that inhabits a clock that tells the correct time only twice a day.
What is it about the citizens of the District of Columbia that causes them to elect people like E H Norton or Marion "the bitch set me up" Barry to represent them over and over again. Maybe their proximity to the looted money machine of DC.
    Cheers

Those they elect emulate the values of the voters in the District. They want someone they can "relate" to, who shares a similar belief system to them.

True story - when my enlistment ended in the USAF (I was stationed at Andrews - close enough to DC to call it part of), they gave me the money for the flight home. I checked - it was going to be a minimum of 9 hours before I could catch the first flight home out of National. Dulles was the next day at the soonest, and taxi fare or the bus (ick) to BWI was too far.. I then checked Greyhound - the bus left in 90 minutes, and the station was 10 minutes away.

Of course... it was bumpy, uncomfortable, and the food sucked... but that 3 day bus ride was WELL worth it to get the you-know-where out of that cesspool. :-) Plus I got to stop on the way - fell in love with Memphis, and San Antonio, and well... yeah!

Every time I had to go there afterwards, it was always - ALWAYS - get in, do whatever, and get out. That place gave me the creeps, and gave me this feeling of, I don't know, feeling scummy and dirty. As soon as I landed. Yuck!

I am flying into DCA tonight and leaving from IAD in the morning. It is always a vision of the bureaucrats feeding off the votes of the entitled while at the same time feeding off the taxes on productivity of the those who actually produce something. Kinda makes you feel like you just got slimmed.

The most interesting part is she's in Congress, and she's arguing the Exec branch should have more power. We've had a trend toward more Executive power, and Congress seems to encourage it.

It's funny she mentions separations of powers. Why do we that if Congress just gives its power away?

Then they get that nice salary, and all the huge perqs, and don't have to do a damned thing to earn them (and "earn", in this context, is a *very* subjective thing anyway).. What do you expect from a looter?

For them, it's like hitting the lotto. Only they get to stuff it in your face every chance they get, which is part of it - See what I get that YOU don't.

I would make the point that she is giving nothing away as she is a NON VOTING MEMBER of congress, but the Democrats seem hell bent on increasing the power of the president. What are they going to do when a Republican gets in, that will happen at least one more time.

You're assuming 2 things... one, there will be another election, and two, that if there is one, the outcome won't be already decided and fixed way ahead of time by both sides.

I think it's time for the states to take matters into own hands and the secession of the republic. There should very little tolerance for for this BS. Seeing the recent numbers bandied about how poorly the gov't is doing it's job that close to 50% of Americans don't seem to care. Now is the time for the minority who are concerned citizens to do something about it. We should be tired of the status quo. If I could start a new Confederate States of America I would! There is no-where else left in the world to start a Galt's Gulch now!
I see no other alternative. I even wrote emails to Senator Jeff Flake and Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick about this strategy among other issues. Of course, they didn't address that. They did address the other issues in Brave New World words (Politico Speech). I going to a August Job Fair in Flagstaff where Kirkpatrick will speak and try to confront her, besides looking for a job.

Who are we, each a little ignorant peon allowed but one (when honest) vote, to question the authority of our Animal Farm more than equal elite betters (AKA Dem code word "Oink!")? Be content, mein obedient comrade citizens, to rally with extended fists raised in salute to our chairman as we issue ein glorious cry of "All hail der 2013 Lie Of The Year Winner! We your subjects adore the content of your character!"

Government abuse of power should disturb rational people of both liberal and conservative stripe. A government exercising tyrannical power can be viewed as "OK" so long as those in power do things the way you think they ought to be done, but it's those things like disregarding the 4th and 5th amendments, or unreasonable taking of property under eminent domain that trample individual rights of all citizens.

The problem comes from an irrational sense that changes we favor will be irrevocable. Liberals who are cheering on this President for Executive overreach will be screaming for impeachment of a conservative President who exercises the same imperial power, but by then it may be too late to reverse course, and we'll all be equally screwed.

Really stupid & ignorant of her. But this exemplifies the "Beltway" mindset and we shouldn't be surprised.

Actually, she reflects decades of stupid people getting elected to office in DC. She is a dinosaur that sold blacks on weak entitlements instead of prosperity.
I say she is a dinosaur because the demographics have been swinging widely the last eight years. More families are moving into DC, while the black population is plummeting. In the eighties, the black population was in the low 90% range. Today, it barely reaches 50%. http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/...

Why anyone would want to move into DC is beyond me. I worked just outside the Beltway for 4 years and you can have it.

Want a 1-bedroom apartment in Herndon or in the highly preferred area called Burke? Ok, that's $1850 a month. Don't like that? Want to move somewhere cheaper? Sorry, we support importing poverty, oops, I mean Section 8. If you 'make too much' based on our opinion, you'll have to cough up the $$...what are you trying to do, save money??

Yep, life in STL is much better.

I could give you plus a couple dozen for that one. BTDT (see above); sadly, I'm limited to one. :-) I remember being a tourist there as a kid (*loved* it) and then living there (--shudder--).

Even thinking back to those days makes my skin crawl.

Norton is an idiot of the first water. Any politician that holds government secrecy to be acceptable should be removed from office at the next election or sooner.

Look at her record - she's a dyed in the wool, libtard dem, who never saw a power grab she didn't support (as long as it would give her more power), a gun grab she didn't support, or a removal of authority from "We Serfs the People" to "Them the Ruling Class".
