Update on Presidential Race (Crawl?)

Three months ago, $5Au posted some thoughts on the 2016 Presidential Sweepstakes. Time for a status report. On the Blue side, Hillary continues her relentless push towards the nomination. $5Au almost used the word "methodical," but foot-in-mouth disease caused Hillbaby a few awkward moments, i.e., pleading "poverty." Also, journalist, Ed Klein is at it again with another Clinton expose. Unlikely that anything he has to say will stick. Indeed, the timing of his book might help HRC to some extent in distancing her from an increasingly unpopular Obama. Unhappiness with the Clinton machine has brought about cries for that famous Native American, Elizabeth Warren, to run. One can only guess how many private dicks Billary has hired to follow her around and sniff out dirt. Thus far, Warren has played it cool. Meanwhile, Nobel and Oscar winner, Algore continues to rake in the climate "disruption" bucks. He would be the biggest threat to HRC if he gets in the game. That leaves Uncle Joe. He knows he can't win, but he genuinely loves the big stage. He'll run.

Now for the Divided 'Ol Party, sorry Grand Old Party. No big changes. Likely to run are Cruz, Paul, Christie, Perry, Rubio, and Stassen, I mean Santorum. Add to the list Dr. Ben Carson, no doubt the most intriguing candidate, and someone who seems to have a very devoted grass-roots following much like Rand Paul. Carson says he will decide after the mid-term election. Less probable candidates include: Walker, Kasich, Pence, Jindal, and Jeb. Returning to Carson for a moment. In the last three months, he has appeared on practically every talk show that will have him, even some that are hostile. He's handled tough questions well, which might serve as very good debate prep for 2016. Perry and Christie have also entered the lion's den, so to speak, and come out unscathed. For Perry, perhaps he's solved his sleeping problems or maybe it really is the glasses.

One final observation is that more and more Hollywood types have summoned the courage to speak up about the nonsense going on with this White House. Obviously, the ones still active as actors are putting their careers at risk.

What observations can you add? Or, if you disagree, please explain why.

Your view of the presidential race is pre-determined by your known voting record combined with your known clicks (and some other data about you). If you are a part-time voter who changes parties, "the race is a maelstrom" says Eli Pariser in _THE FILTER BUBBLE: What the Internet is Hiding From You_ (Penguin 2011). If you vote regularly for the same party, the race is a crawl. You only see the news that your own Google, Yahoo, Amazon, and Facebook filters tell candidates to show you. Unlike the days of newspapers, no single top-level site shows you any general appeal to the average voter. Every message is microtargeted. Pariser worked for MoveOn.Org.

Coincidentally, fivedollargold had a long talk over lunch today with a guy that writes code which allows advertisers to determine where 1-800 callers are coming from in relation to TV ads. This improves targeting of ads much like click-throughs on websites.

A good assessment. I do think Warren will be their candidate. She's to the left of obama, hard to believe I know, and will continue with his agenda. Biden and billary will just be providing her with opportunities as they trip all over themselves. Gore is an unelectable idiot and makes more money pushing carbon credits.

Carson and Huckabee will both get the religious rights hearts all aflutter, but at least Carson uses some logic. Paul and Cruz still have some hurdles to jump and baggage to dump. Rubio damaged himself on immigration. Jindal I don't know. Christie is damaged goods. Then of course there's Mitt.

Then there are the voices in the wilderness like Gary Johnson. He is advocating hard for all the candidates to be heard in the Presidential debates, not just the anointed by the establishment guys. He is interesting, a libertarian and a small government guy who was the Governor of New Mexico.

You care about a presidential race two years out, over which you have little control. And that's fine as far as it goes. However, with an actual producer's strike over gold and silver sales in Minnesota, the bandwidth is empty. No one cares. It is not hot. I do not understand why. I only heard about a couple of weeks ago from the Liberty Coin Service (hardcopy) monthly newsletter. I searched some libertarian and Objectivist sites, and found nothing. The coin guys knew more, but there, too, I found a lack of interest. So, that makes an issue important?

I concur regarding Gore's IQ. A lot of Dems feel he got robbed in Florida (he didn't) and would support him out of latent Bush-hatred or because they are tired of Billary. Thus far, he seems more just interested in climate-scam money than public office.

You remind me of another candidate who stood up for the un-anointed to be heard.

In the 1980 Presidential debates, they weren't going to let all the candidates participate. In order that they could, Ronald Reagan paid for the debate.

During the event, one of the moderators ordered Reagan's mic turned off, to which he angrily replied, "I'm PAYING for this microphone!"

All that makes it into the historic media record is his exasperated comment.
