Hmmm... I thought it was common for military guys to GET tattoos....so this leads me to believe that it is somehow related to the disapproval of tattoos by muslims. I wonder what triggered this new regulation for the military that went into effect in March. WTF?

No, it's always been common for Navy guys and Marines to get tattoos. Not soldiers. Of course, when I say "always" I'm thinking back to before we became the People's Democratic Republic of North America.

I am not a Moslem, and I oppose tattoos. We are the United States of America, not some south seas cargo cult. Civilized people do not permanently disfigure their bodies. (so the current popularity of tattooing and body piercing is further evidence of our slide into barbarism).

Different times, Hiraghm. Today it is common for the young to defile their bodies with tattoos. That should not prohibit them from serving their country.

        "...serving their country..."

That strikes me as an odd turn of phrase here in the gulch.

Why is it such a great thing to 'serve their country'? I don't mean why's it a noble thing, I mean compare it to, "...that should not prohibit them from becoming a rock star" or "... that should not prohibit them from inventing a computer and making a billion dolllars".

You're comparing going to a faraway land, maiming and killing people you don't know, and, more significantly, suffering physical discomfort and mental anguish while risking getting maimed or killed yourself.

This is not something people should do out of ambition; it's something they should do reluctantly, out of a feeling of responsibility. And some freaking people are not fit to do it. Bubba the 360 lb land whale comes to mind.

At what point does culture ever matter to you people? (in this context, "you people" refers to all you homo sapiens that this neanderthal can't figure out...)

Do you really, really, really, really, honestly and truly believe that all cultures are equal? If so... WHY THE HELL DID YOU READ PAST THE FIRST CHAPTER OF ATLAS SHRUGGED?

Sorry, I got upset. James Taggart, Wesley Mouch, Orrin Boyle, Thompson, Dr Ferris... they all shared a culture. And guess what? That culture took the country into the toilet!

Don't tell me "different times" when we're in the middle of repeating the 5th century A.D.!

There should be a mental test before people can enlist. And the mindset that thinks its appropriate to disfigure your body with permanent tattoos and piercings should be allowed to enlist... as munitions.

Think of it as evolution in action.
