Eggs require as much energy to produce as beef. Can we make them from plants?

Factory-farmed eggs require more energy to produce than milk and swine, combined. That's just one of the economic arguments inspiring Hampton Creek's quest to create a plant-based egg alternative.

Anyone ever think about the backyard chickens of yesteryear? Much of their food came in the form of table scraps and lawn waste (recycling before recycling become popular).

    After reading, i am confusted.
    It seems energy=yards
I would not invest on the basis of that.
If Li Ka-shing has invested $23 million that gives some cred.

Still, give me a real egg over the substitute brands any day. I can’t even stand the smell of substitute eggs.

They admit they are not ready to duplicate eggs for consumption as eggs. ( I love real eggs, too, and they are much better for health of most people than detractors claim. One of natures 'miracles' in terms of nutrition.)

I guess the energy cost component isn't large or eggs would be similar in cost to beef per weight.
