I don't know why they didn't say "You do NOT own my kids." Instead they still praised the Principal and made excuses that the Principal and staff are "forced" to do this. That is NO excuse and we have to stop accepting that as a reason for horrible practices. ugh. The implementers are just as guilty as the rule makers.

The public school system unfortunately has less to do with educating children, and more to do with funding for the school. I applaud these parents for taking this stance - and I would encourage all parents to get this involved in what is being taught to their children, as well as what their children are subjected to at schools.

I think the public school system is great in theory but central authority (Federal and State) needs to understand that we are not standardized robots and a one size fits all approach to education will not work.

That is crazy, and the state rules that say pass or don't advance is downright scary. I have always understood that a parent can opt out. I've told my home room kids that all their parents have to do is send in a note saying such. I have never had a kid take me up on it but I've had several just take the day off.
