Sixth Graders' Common Core Homework: Remove Two Rights from Bill of Rights

My gasket would have been incinerated over this had it happened in one of my kids schools. The teachers, the principal, the district managers, and everyone up the chain within my state would cringe at the sound of my voice.

I had lunch today with a coworker and met her adult children. One told me about an interview she had with our current administration. She was asked what her favorite amendment was and thought that was incredible.
    Let's see if you say....
1st:,you must be a religious nut or an occupy ws bum
    2nd: gun nut!
    4th: your a closet pervert
    5th,6th7or8th: exCon for sure
9th or 10th: must be a freakin libertarian or former slave owner.
So you gotta say the 3rd!

    Love the 3rd Amendment

You have no proof that this is "Common Core." I challenge you to goto the Common Core website and find such an assignment. Every complaint you have involving a public school, you lay on the same doorstep: Common Core.

Second, kids usually have "no prior education" in anything at all before they get education in that. So, starting here might not be the best choice for epistemological reasons, but you have to start somewhere.

We have had discussions here on this board about non-rights such as the trial by jury. The Bill of Rights served a purpose in its time but was never constructed objectively. Largely, it is a copy of the English Bill of Rights of 1689. Moreover, it was only recently because of judicial activism by progressives that the Federal Bill of Rights was incorporated (one by one and not yet completely) to the states. In the good old days states could and did torture people for confessions - and deny atheists the privilege of voting, serving on juries, or running for office. And gun registration is still local and state level, despite the Second Amendment (which is federal only).

So, maybe kids should learn to discuss rights. Yes, it would be better if _we_ did the teaching. Are you doing that? Or just complaining because someone else is not?

I taught my kids the Constitution, including the Bill of Rights to be best of my ability. I have done so since they could comprehend what I was saying. Further, I have hammered home, just today as a matter of fact, what inalienable means and why it is important to the American people and was important to our Forefathers. Should I have had to? No, but it wasn't being done by anyone else. My exposure to Common Core has been limited here in Arizona but the lack of any semblance of civics, accurate history, or encouraging success in kids makes this and other article very possible.
btw I have received 4 phone calls conducting surveys for Common Core. I shot them all down and wrote my governor following each one.

It would be interesting to see The Gault take a crack on crafting an amendment that would overturn Citizens United and McCutcheon vs FEC SCOTUS rulings by making them unconstitutional. Lot of intelligent folks here. Could be an interesting exercise.

You know...as I learn more about Common Core I actually cannot believe it at face value. This must be something more than just a new way to teach kids. It dawned on me, paranoid as it sounds, that perhaps this is some sort of trojan horse weapon...something that they know will draw out people they can then identify as true enemies of the system - involved parents, conservatives, educated people.

I just finished a book on Pol Pot, so understand my mindset. I just can't believe the text of the material in Common Core to be an honest attempt to educate. It's just too farcacle. No sane person would print such stuff and think, "Yeah, this will help kids."

Hmmm. Let's see. I'll bet the 'teachers' will nudge the students towards removing the 2nd Amendment. Why? Because it sets it up in the little minds of the fight THEY'LL support about 20 years later when the Gov't brings it up. This is sick. If we (Parents and non-Parents alike) don't fight NOW, this country is finished for good.

It seems to me that the assignment probably would likely wish to curtail the 2nd Amendment. It is likely the most obvious "target" of this assignment. But, if they really wanted to do damage - they'd probably want to attack the 9th and 10th amendments, respectively.

Eliminating unenumerated rights (9th) and those left to the states (10th) would likely be the quickest path to unbridled federal largess.
