Friday is the day I stop thinking about my weekday job and start thinking about the code I need to get written for my own project. I look forward to the idea of taking a vacation, in a year or two..

hey, i. Fridays are a multi-tasking day for us as well. We stop midday from the "day job" and head to the beach bar with the laptops to write. Often people want to talk and hey! that's how you come up with more characters :)....

nice.... I wish the beach could be on option.. Right now we are in Seattle, which is a bit too everything to want to be outside... Once things are spun up on the startup and its hit its first income threshold we will be back in Milwaukee.. The beach will still not be an option for most of the year.. But, I know a number of good places that will fill in nicely there..

I was just thinking that - Friday is actually the start of my "Short Week Monday" where I can put *my* time in to *my* business rather than someone elses!! To some it would be drudgery... to me, now *that's* fun!!

In a class where children are encouraged to be creative, they put the "expected" answer AND write the funny answer.

It really doesn't take that much more effort from from a teacher who actually gives a darn. Did it for decades. Encourage it in your own kids, but NOT in class - know your teacher, first, just in case.

Friday is the day I usually write letters of recommendation and put together most of weekly newsletter (mostly jobs, but a lot of tech news, too). I guess that all of that is part of my Shrug job as career services coordinator instead of being solely what most people who would expect most professors would do.

Indeed, I laughed heartily. One in particular about school being hell rung a bell. It is almost as hilarious as the answer a colleague of mine saw once on a General Chemistry test regarding Boyle's Law.

        http://www.snopes.com/college/exam/hell....

Part of the student's answer included a variant of the usual answer regarding hell listed on the above web site saying that
"hell must be exothermic because a girl he'd been chasing had sworn it'd be a cold day in hell before she'd sleep with him, and he'd so far been unable to get to first base with her." Of course, the student who turned in the exam said that since he had recently hit a home run with the girl that hell must have completely frozen over. Therefore, ...

Am I to find the answer funny, or the fact that this quiz is on the "College Humor" site?

That was an honest question. The answer was humorous, but I think the fact that this level of quiz is on a site called "College Humor" might be even more funny. Is that what they're teaching at our institutions of higher learning nowadays?

And yes, Beer Battered Perch is on the menu in about an hour. Got to put in some sustenance before the big county supervisor candidate forum this evening. Election is Tues - wish me luck (or not, depending ;-)

No way, you just have to think outside the box...

Kindle or the iBook app on an iPhone have tremendous value in being able to "multi-task" while in a meeting! (Sounds stodgy, but I do PDF's on iBooks for my work ref material - works pretty darned good!). And when it goes to heck, that novel is right there...

Good luck on the forum, and break a leg on the election. (And maybe we'll do some Fish & Chips tonite - wonder if the fish market has some of those cod planks they seem to get every so often... Mmmmm!!!)

Besides my opponent, not a single voter from the district. And with the election next Tues, no press either, since they publish on/after the election. So, that gave me a lot of flexibility to speak my mind freely. The others basically came across as "I'll spend your money wisely", while I said basically that I don't want your money to spend, it is yours, you should keep it.

From the district that I'm running in. To be fair, this was held on a Friday night, in the southern part of the county (my district is in the northern part), where there are 3 highly contested district races. That said, there were only 22 people in attendance, including about 6 ladies from the League of Women Voters who sponsored the event. So, no, not an overwhelming crowd.

Generally, we're a pretty well run county. We have been ranked in the top 5 best places to raise a family for several years (number 2 this year). So most people are rather content with county government. Still, too many are willing to have government control more than it should. Just in the past month the only taxi service in the county went out of business. The county runs it's own taxi service. Was the competition from the "ride share" county service the only reason that the private business went under? Probably not, but it sure didn't help. The answer from most of the other candidates was - it's revenue neutral to the county and receives 60% of its costs from federal and other grants, so not a problem. They don't seem to recognize that whether the funding is coming from the right pocket or the left, it is still coming from the taxpayer - with a significant cost of bureaucracy taken out along the way. I would rather the full costs be borne by the county, at least that way we would cut out feeding the looters in DC.

Eliminate "gov't" businesses - the cty has a rest home, 2 golf courses, and a taxi service
Fiscal management - outsourcing road maintenance
Reduced gov't - see two points above

                  nice 3 points,
It might be wise to point out that, by reducing the size of government, you will not be increasing the ranks of the unemployed - if, in fact, you aren't.
you need more than one example of fiscal management. I REALLY like, by the way, the phrase "fiscal management" rather than "end fiscal mis-management"; the positive always sells better than the negative. I assume you have more than one example and didn't list them for space considerations.
RESPONSES: have a plan that will allow you to turn aside criticisms and answer the negative. The "you sound like a TEAPartier!" and "how do you intend to deal with....."

I disagree with some people who do this politics stuff, but I think it's OK to say you didn't have access to all the facts on a particular issue, and give a HARD date by when you will and will give answers to that question.

I hesitate to wish you good luck, as I think public servitude fouls whatever good things it touches; I will only say that I hope you get what you want, and know when it's over that you did your level righteous best to get it.

Well, it's over. You can see my response to Susanne above. I'm definitely not in this to control others - I want to reduce county gov't to the min absolutely necessary, then get out of it.

Why is it I *can* envision you grooving to that? Yiiii!!!! (Maybe the guy in the back seat of the car motioning to "get in"? --giggles--)

Of course... that you even knew it was there raises all kinds of flags... I'd pursue it, but it's FRIDAY and time to go have FUN!!!

Knowing I'm an old car nut... Packard double windshield Touring Phaeton from the late 20's to mid 30's (opulence and open air) or a Doble (you may have to look it up), same era, same configuration (one known)... Maybe I'd "slum" to a Pierce Arrow limo or a "5 series" Mercedes Kompressor (540K for example). Seriously - once bitten by *that* bug its impossible to shake off. (and once you've, um, "snuggled" in the back of a Packard, everything else is just too small or too plain jane...)

Something more modern? How about a late 60's Hemi GTO... or a 59 or 60 Cadillac, either one in the ragtop version. I *guess* I could be seen in one of those! --lol--

I'm busy looking stuff up. completely familiar with pierce arrows and my dad has like 20 hood ornaments, but the only phaetons I know were high strung and pulled by horses...;)

A cross between a touring car and a limo, usually lower slung and 7-9 passengers... Now... there's one I never considered... a buggy! That would be cool to get in the back seat of. (never you mind the Amish connotations! –giggles--)

An old family friend (RIP Barney) had a Doble, got to ride in it a few times (and he'd let me crawl all around it as well - its all his fault I ended up a Girl Engineer in the making!!); it was one major set of events that got me interested in engineering stuff as a kid and changed my life irreparably - I remember, since I was about 14 or so, wanting to design and build a modern vehicle using his system. When I think how I coulda been a boring housewife... Yiiii!!!!
