Voting in the Gulch

If you haven't kept up on all of the voting drama these past few days, this post should help summarize: http://www.galtsgulchonline.com/posts/51...

I'm glad to report that guest voting has been restored, with one caveat... you must have earned 100+ Gulch points. Here's the message guest members will see when they have yet to accumulate enough points...

While we're very happy to have you in the Gulch and appreciate your wanting to fully engage, voting in the Gulch is a privilege, not a right. To get you up to speed as quickly as possible, we've provided two options for earning the privilege to vote in the Gulch.

1. You must reach a Gulch score of 100. You can earn points in the Gulch by posting content, commenting, or by other members voting up your posts.
2. You may upgrade to a Galt's Gulch Producer membership to immediately have the ability to vote.

Thanks again to blarman for the suggestion ( http://www.galtsgulchonline.com/posts/51... ) and of course jbaker for making it happen so quickly.

I took the upgrade, for two reasons. One, though I might have misperceived this, the Gulch lowered its price of admission, from ten dollars a month to not even forty dollars a year. Now that *is* nominal.

Second, if I am not mistaken: producers may submit posts. "Moochers" may not. And I have a library of posts that I might like to submit.

Ah, while I (a moocher) may not submit a post, I can still comment and my comments count toward the "price of admission".
However, being the treasurer of a local amateur radio club, I fully understand the need to limit voting to those who actually pay dues.
Actually, I didn't need to mention any of this...I just wanted to up my comments level...grin.

A person has to earn the right to vote in the US by
becoming a citizen. That right is taken away by
certain actions. The owners of the Gulch have a
    right to determine what's citizenship
However, I think a lot of people here trivialize what Galt's Gulch represents with points for the sake of points
Perhaps posts should be allowed to happen or automatically deleted only if they generate enough points to be considered significant within a certain time period. Let's say 10 positive points

      NO, NO.
There is plenty of trivia, gossip, rude remarks, side comments, silliness and general drivel here to make it a real society. I like that. All-serious-all-the-time is too much too sustain. Did you, BTW, look around and see how many posts "earn" 10 points? I'd be curious.

I think Galt's Gulch is about looking for the best
within us. Not drivel, silliness, rude remarks, trivia, There are too ,many serious topics to be considered, and done something about

But "considering serious topics" every single minute tires the mind, dulls the imagination, smothers creativity, and is exhausting.
You honestly think that our Founders never adjourned - actually, I was going to say "never adjourned to a nearby tavern for a break and an ale - but that's where a lot of meetings were held.
Remember, it's "the best within us". Not just the most serious, or the deepest thoughts, or any one path the human brain can follow. It's supposed to be ALL of the best within us.

Isn't this just peachy keen... non-members getting the "privilege" to vote. Maybe the U.S. should adopt the same liberal logic -- just because you are NOT a citizen you can "earn" the "privilege" to vote by earning a "voting score" of 100 by keeping out of jail for 6 months, by working to 6 months, by doing "something" for some period of time. Ayn Rand must be rolling over in her grave. Want to vote, then become a member of Galt's Gulch.
