I would like to see a feature added that lets people know who is either adding or removing points from a post or comment.
I ask this because there appears to be someone going through and changing the post/comment point totals.
I by no means am trying to stifle the free expression of ideas and opinion. I would just like to know who doesn't like a post and why. If that information is made public or to the poster of the comment etc. it might improve their posting efforts. Likewise if a post is particularly good and gets pluses, who like the post should also be known.
If this is too onerous, perhaps the pluses and minus could be shown to the owner of the post or comment.
If this is too much "clarity and transparency" then I don't know what to do other than allow the silent minority to rule.

I'm afraid that would likely be too difficult. Whomever is doing that is quite juvenile.
In the end, does it really matter? I'm not here for the points, rather the stimulating discussion.

I agree, but if enough -1's the post is removed. That is not fair if the -1's are malicious.

True. The post should not be automatically removed. Should be reviewed by a moderator (listening Scott?) and only then removed.

Do you assert that it is Rusty doing the dinging or is a target of the dinging?
From what I have read, this Rusty doesn't seem to be one to be causing mayhem.

I'm asserting that someone is doing it to rusty. It was done to me last week, and I've noticed it several other times since it happened to me.
You can't lower your own total. At least I don't think you can. I know you cannot raise you total.

Whenever I find myself actually wasting time in cyberspace defending my right to virtual points I may have earned --I step back.

I am always much happier when I just step back from the keyboard for a few days.

I come here for news on the movie and to say hello to the “nice people” in cyberspace, and read what’s worth reading..

Don’t waste a moment of your valuable time on this sort of thing. You will never win.

no rusty is getting dinged. In fairness, there have been a few posts that are viral emails. I can see an Objectivist objecting...but that doesn't explain all the downpointing-which does seem strategic and does center on point leaders for the day or week. MM has said that he would like to get rid of down votes. I actually like the feature as a way to self regulate in the gulch-but it can be used for bad. This kind of thing is usually a phase.

It's not self regulating, it's regulating others. I agree there are some wasteful posts. Those can be handled by not giving a point. It keeps happening every week. I noticed a few comments I gave points to, almost immediately after I gave the points I went back and the points were gone.

By self regulating I mean the site. Trust me there will be troll periods of huge down voting. This is pretty mild in comparison but I agree annoying. If people see comments at 0 they think shouldn't be they will correct with a point up.

I notices several posts set to 0 this early evening. Most wre by Rusty. that is the key to the pattern. It is usually one or two people getting their posts dinged.

Objectively, if you give attention to who(m)ever is doing this, he/she is accomplishing what they want. I mark up for contributing to the discussion and I occasionally mark down if it's just nonsense or completely off topic.

They can only mark +/-1 once.

I would like this too. Sometimes I want to say, "yes, I agree completely," but I don't want to waste space, so I just hit the +1. It would be nice if it showed up that CG says +1, without me having to say it.

It merits taking up space to write why I disagree but not to say "Yes". This makes me, and anyone who follows this policy seem like a negative person.

At least I would like the +1's to be attributed.

Maybe they should remove the -1 that would eliminate the problem. This is an objectivist site, there is no need for a score that could be used for collectivism.
