This article actually seems to explain why Trump is Trump. And also seems to be pretty good at identifying where the media is at at all with this, even going so far as to mention 1984.
Trump is a successful billionaire. I have not followed his career, but he is a flamboyant man, proud of his accomplishments and he speaks his mind. He has a temper and is quick to use it to go on the offense. I can't even imagine Trump on the defense. So far, there are the attributes of an executive who is a leader. True, his knowledge is incomplete, but there are and will be people on his staff that will take care of that. The country could do worse than Donald Trump. A lot worse. It has proved that by electing some pretty bizarre characters such as Jesse Ventura. The left hates him and portrays him as a major buffoon. But the reason they really hate him is not because he is running for president. It's because he's a successful businessman, which puts the lie to their philosophy of negativity. There are a few people running that I would prefer over Trump. But, as I said, we could do worse. A lot worse.
I am sick and tired of career politicians, most of who have not produced anything their entire lives, except inventing ways to answer politically correct questions that won't offend anyone. My acid tests are these. #1. Does the candidate have the mental capacity to serve? #2. Does the candidate have enough guts to believe in his platform, and defend that platform honestly? #3. Does the candidate have bills to pay, ie, has he sold his soul to the devil so to speak?
That's it. Some of you folks proclaim that the $ is almighty, and that if it is earned without stealing it, that is the Holy Grail. I do not believe that Trump, who has gamed the system, lost his a$$, and then came back, is anybody but someone to be considered. He is far from being bought by the system of political action committees, speaks his mind, and yes, makes mistakes in the heat of passion while dealing with complete morons with an agenda, ie, the calculating and thus far ass whipped media. Trump has "trumped" them, because they have no idea of the pent up rage of the silent conservative/libertarian majority.
Anyone who has been able to accumulate billions in an environment hostile to business is anything but stupid.
While unpolished and, while disapproved by some of the Gulches arm chair eloquent prognosticators, he seems to be kicking tail.
I am not surprised. America needs a leader that is real, not some pedestal appointed demigod.
Personally, I am surprised that he is not the defacto choice of a list that exists based on accomplishment in spite of looter intervention.
And if ego's would allow, I would love to see a Rand/Trump combo.
I think that you are expressing the very reasons he's doing so well in the polls. A metaphor might go like this: Would you like a sweet multi-colored subtle flavored drink, or cold clear mountain water in a multi-colored gilded glass?
John Fogerty of Creedence Clearwater Revival wrote those lyrics in the song "Bootleg". I sang that song a few times when I had a band in high school. Even so, I had to look it up. My mind isn't quite as photographic as it used to be.
Those words about water seem appropriate right now for Californians. Just ask Tom Selleck, who got into trouble for "stealing water" that he actually paid for.
And wasn't that a funny one. He still paid a 20K "fee" because the district he got it from (that had been funneled through his district) claimed that the first one couldn't sell it to him etc...Just wanting a bigger cut of the cake I guess...
The fact he is voicing what a lot of the unwashed masses really believe is one of his "Trump Cards". I just think the Party bosses on both sides, or the real bosses in the backroom, will ensure he implodes one way or another, they have already dredged up Ventura and his ex.
There are plenty of examples. Schwartzenegger, and that Senator from Minnesota Whatzisname. One wonders how in the world anyone could elect them to high office. But they did, and I suspect will continue to do. But, after the McCain fiasco, which apparently affected him little or not at all, when it comes to cheap shots, the guy's an armadillo. They just bounce off.
I'll take the water, and wish a little scotch into it -- with the flask which I used to have handy! . we should arrange to sell the gilded glasses on the website alongside D'Anconia shirts!!! -- j .
I think there was a fall out, and Ventura hauled out to Mexico anyways. I think he does an internet radio show or something. They already have been muck raking that relationship, and I am sure it will get more press.
The problem is that we have to get a good person actually elected. If Romney is right, 47% are just looking for handouts, and prob another 40% who dont want to GIVE the handouts. That leaves the balance who will actually elect the president. Very scary. I would rather have a 4 years hiatus where we have no present and no new laws !!
Sort of like the 8 years of Clinton, who other than selling anything that wasn't bolted down, wasn't too bad all in all. Hillary, though, would not be a repeat, she is banned from the looting pot, she took too many handfulls already.
Offense is the best defense. (I tried to look up who said that. Evidently the saying is a bit turned around and all over the search engine so, without wasting more of my time, I guess I just said that).
Well -- like I said, we could do worse. There are plenty of skeptics out there, but I think he could beat Hillary, or any Dem. The only thing that turns me off is that he appears to like the spotlight too much and might do things to foster his image rather than what is best for the country. The media has tried to picture him as a buffoon, but they are beginning to realize they can't get away with that any longer.
Trump and Sanders serve to good purpose, though neither is likely to get the nomination. By forcing open discussion of what the "common folk" say among themselves in frustration, they're forcing the rest of the political herd to actually address the issues and propose real solutions (well, some of them, anyway).
I can't help but think that Trump's primary appeal among the little people is that he is not "bought and paid for." That singular no-strings-attached quality makes him "unqualified" by corporate America, the political establishment and the media.
Me thinks you are very right. He is basically uncontrollable, and might implement weird things like economic freedom, eliminate regulation, insist you actually be a citizen (for many things). I believe both parties are so busy selling their souls for campaign contributions and their own uses, that he is interfering with their appointed business. My only question is whether he is real, or just a meme come to life. But he does tread on the appeal of independence because he has so much money no one can buy him.
If Trump were to get elected President, the financial play would be to bet on derivatives. There are few people who are capable of spectacular successes and failures as much as him. Does anyone remember the United States Football League? They "won" their antitrust case against the NFL, but the award was $1. Lawyers would probably be the winners if Trump won, too.
Indicative of where we are at, in that media is never required to prove their report, or that it is even based in fact. Just the rumor mill alone is enough to sway a bloc. And that assumes the actual voting process is secure and legitimate, which we have had enough evidence to show is not always true.
Take any even slightly technical subject and you'll find the media not even close to reporting on it correctly (I'm thinking of aviation). Extrapolate that ignorance to non-technical subjects and, well, there you are.
I am not so sure how derivatives would be a factor. The claim is that he is a showboater who is just satisfying his own need for attention, and doesn't really think he will actually have to worry about really being elected. It sort of fits how on one hand he seems to actually see what is going on for real, and then turn around and blow himself out of the water with some weird retort that serves no real purpose. I do admire the fact he is not a real politician, that seems to be what attracts some people. Maybe Ben Carson is the best of a rather sordid bunch.
Derivative plays in financial transactions bet on stock price volatility. Trump is volatile. I would expect a Trump presidency to be volatile as well, both positively and negatively.
After having a number of career politicians running our country (into the ground), I think a successful businessman (even with funky hair and a bombastic attitude) would be a breath of fresh air...and may just be what this country needs as a "swift kick in the pants" to straighten it back out.
What's amazing to me... is that even people who I know that are "left-leaning" are taking an interest in Trump - some have even said that, because of his unabashed ability to unashamedly speak his mind (not to mention his unquestionable success in business), they would likely vote for him. Who would have thought?
I can only think - we've had a LOT worse residing at 1600 Pennsylvania.

Myself, I prefer drinking a known fluid regardless of what container it is in.
Trump may be a long tall drink of water that the opposition will combat, but man, it sure is refreshing to folks like me.
So, a metaphor for you.
"Take you a glass of water. Make it against the law. See how good the water tastes when you can't have any at all."
I forget what band lyrics those are. I'm old, dammint.....
We old F--s still have lots to contribute, even if we open the refrigerator door and can't remember why.

nicely put.
