Move the Jefferson Memorial to someplace it will be respected by people who can think. I suggest Atlantis.

    I like the renaming idea.
In case you hadn't noticed, I always call it the Dark Center.
Paraphrasing Luke Skywalker, "If there's a bright center to the universe, DC is the place that it's farthest from."

The buttons are being furiously pushed to provoke riots so sOmeOne can impOse martial law, suspend the Constitution, and extend his reign of destruction. Don't doubt for a second that all this lunatic anti-American pro-revisionist history nutjobs aren't backed in someway by O or someone he's in bed with.

I'm afraid I agree, there seems to be concerted effort to stir up group think warfare, whether it's race, class, law enforcement, military vs civilian, etc. And the Orwelllian twists on American principles have my head spinning. I would love an Objectivist translation service for government and MSM corrupted language!

It is as if I am reading a new version of the book 1984. Don't they see this?

I have to agree, jlc. In '1984', the main character's whole career was based on changing the past, editing news articles to cover for governmental mistakes and miscalculations. So, whitewashing our past runs the risk of creating more sheep to fall in line with whomever is in charge.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, one and all. I'm so relieved to know that I am not the only one who thinks that there is martial law in our immediate future. I've had these thoughts since the first election of the "o".
And its just gotten worse since then. All moves by this administration seems to be pointing in that direction.

OMG! The WH Squatter's dictatorship has
been planned ever since his Re-election. Why
the surprise now? The only surprise would be
if it DIDN'T happen. Sadly, America has been
asleep at the wheel for tooooooo long.

I am sorry but I am actually a fan of President Jefferson. Yes, he was a slaveholder but he was a renaissance man and the embodiment of the enlightenment. He was an Ambassador to England and France, he was Secretary of State under President Washington, he was Governor of Virginia. He established the University of Virginia. He designed the Virginia State Capitol in Richmond. Along with all of his inventions and machinations, he was truly a remarkable man. For being a slave holder though, you cannot look in the present tense, you have to look at the time frame in which he lived and the current political context does not look at that. They are putting everything into the modern context and do not understand history or what these people, like Washington and Jefferson and Adams and Hancock and others accomplished. This country would not exist in it's current state (as bad as it currently is) without the sacrifice that those individuals put forth.

+1 jimslag! I agree 100%. The only way to fully appreciate what the Founders of the US truly accomplished, one has to get into the mindset of the times and discover who they really were. If the PC crowd has their way all that history will be disintegrated in Orwell's memory hole and then they will tell us what to believe, rather than what actually was.

I would ask those who are in favor of these changes what, exactly, would be improved in our country if we were to enact said changes tomorrow morning? Would history be changed? Would there no longer be any racial animus? If the answers are negative, what reason other than hatred could possibly be given for this wanton destruction?

There is so much irrationality and delusion going on with this mass hysteria--what is this logical train of thought and analysis you would try to impose on these people?! Cause and effect? Wha...?? Sorry, I'm on your side but I don't see logic and reason working so abruptly on most of these people. There needs to be a more intuitive approach and argument although I don't have a good one yet.

Everything we're experiencing lately is due to the change from teaching American history to Social Studies and its demon offspring, "social justice".

This is why people are so ignorant of our past and the great men who built this country.

All of these distractionary tactics by the left are to keep us in reactionary mode and on our heels.

The truly sad part of all this is the constant caving in to these societal numbskulls by the politicians who are only interested in their political careers and NOT what's right.

Originally, it was called Federal City. Then, the Federalists renamed it "Washington" in honor of the man whom they called "the father of his country." Ignorant of Latin texts such as Suetonius, no one knows that "pater patriae" was a title granted to Roman emperors (first citizens: princeps), by the Senate, as if he were the pater familias of all Rome. Renaming Washington DC to Federal City DC would be the republican thing to do.

As for the complex and multifaceted Mr. Jefferson, as much as we must admire his rhetoric on behalf of the rights of man, the rights of Sally Hemings were somewhat less important to him. It is not just that he owned slaves, slavery being simply a legal status, but that he banged the daylights out of a minor girl whom he owned as property. It was completely, totally, and irrevocably an unequal relationship. "The whole commerce between master and slave is a perpetual exercise of the most boisterous passions, the most unremitting despotism on the one part, and degrading submissions on the other." [Query XVIII, “Manners” -- here: http://tjrs.monticello.org/archive/se...]

So, I would keep the Jefferson Memorial as a reminder of how internally conflicted America is. You gotta take the bad with the good. But Washington? In the libertarian science fiction series of the Probability Broach by L. Neil Smith, Washington was hanged as a traitor to the Republic, and Hamilton was exiled to Prussia.

Interesting Mike Marotta. I recall that it was said of Julius Caesar that he was, "Every woman's husband; every man's wife."

      A real "pater patriae", eh?

The Fascist Liberals are hard at work to gut our nation. They want to rewrite history, eliminate the Founding Fathers and our Constitution. For decades we have allowed our nation school system to indoctrinate our children into socialist anarchy. We are paying the price! Train up a child in the way they should go, and when they are old they will not depart from. It seam that at least half of our children have been sent in the wrong direction.
We should leave the Jefferson Memorial right where it is, and deport all of Fascist Liberal that are ruining our nation.

there is no longer any tradition associated with the nation that has been referred too as the united states of america, so lets change the names of everything until a new democratic crowd decides that things should be changed to something else. this country is determined to destroy itself from within, we need no outside enemies.

This isn't a joke, is it? It sounds like some trick Jesse Watters would pull: ask people whether they would support something outrageous and actually find takers. Jesse Watters tells us just how fouled up government education really is.

Of course, here's another I Could Say That But I Won't moment. In this case: I could say public education delivers horrible results. But I won't say it, because I do not argue from possibly bad results but from a basic premise that the government has no business meddling in education, aside from training military or police officers.

in the event you think I was making a joke I was not. it is very very obvious that every action taken by government results in failure so it is imperative to get government out of everything. but that action is NOT ever going to happen until the country is completely fractured and the nation becomes more than three all independent of each other. it is time you got used to the fact that we are failing because the government is matter of fact taking over every aspect of the lives of the citizens and the massive bulk of them are like lemming running to the sea.

    How about Che Guavera D.C.
    Or perhaps Cesar Chavez D.C.
    Or maybe Mao-Tse Dung D.C.
Oh, wait, I've got it -- Benedict Arnold City D.C.
Or you could divide it into four sections and name each section with one of the above. Then, America haters who disparage the country of their birth can feel proud of an exhibition of some of those who have shown the opposite of what America once stood for.

This is the type of thought that happens when reason, reality and boundaries are eliminated from childhood upbringing.
    Processing thought takes some effort.
We live in a society where our pop culture teaches that changing a name or a word recreates reality. ("You didn't build that...")
Reminds me of the ostrich that hides it's head in the sand. Nothing good can happen when your defenses consist of ignoring reality.

There should be NO rewriting of history. Whatever happened, happened. Its a slippery slope, and in the end, pretty much ALL of history should be eliminated. The Union army did a LOT of bad stuff with the indians, the mexicans, the mormons, etc. Although we have this consititution, the country didnt follow it very closely when it was taking over all the land from atlantic to pacific oceans.

Strugatsky, I was not defending Jefferson Davis.
I'd just as soon take his statue down and put it in
a museum. Thomas Jefferson was not Jefferson
Davis. (And if, incidentally, blacks could also own
slaves, that does not make slavery any better).

As to history, Richard Speck was part of
our history. So was the Boston Strangler. Also
Al Capone. Does that mean we should erect
    heroic statues to them?

The writers of the Constitution are being put in the same bag with mass murderers? Why can't we just fight for the truth? Humans make mistakes, sometimes they are a product if the times they live in, sometimes they rise above tyranny and fight for freedom...to the death. Let's honor the good and the important accomplishments, not forgetting the wrongs in the process, but not throwing the good baby out with the dirty bath water in attempt to forget a painful, yet VERY important, past. I see all if this as a power grab...and a nanny nanny boo boo poke in the eye.

Jefferson did not fight for slavery. Neither did
Washington. At the time of the Revolution, slavery
was legal also in England. Neither man was per-
fect. Still, Washington freed his slaves in his will.
    Jefferson, (unfortunately, and also reprehensib-
ly), did not. But I believe that the Declaration of
Independence, which he largely wrote, did lead
eventually to the abolitionist crusade, the Civil
War, and to the eventual freeing of slaves.

However, Jefferson Davis was the president
of the Confederacy, and, I have read, was a
slaveholder, and there is no reason why he
should have a statue like a hero's dedicated to
him in the public square and maintained at tax-
payers' expense. There is talk here (Richmond,
Va.) of talking the statues off Monument Ave.
and putting them in a museum, which I think is
the best idea. Someone else has proposed
adding Civil Rights' heroes statues to the Aven-
ue instead, but I do not think it is right to hold
those who fought for a cause, which, if won,
would have resulted in the continuing of slave-
ry, as "heroes" equal to those who did some-
    thing positive.

I think the whole CBF and getting rid of any mention of the Civil War in public is squelching free speech and it would be eliminating discussion. What if in 100 years, they want to eliminate all of the Civil Rights heroes statues and replace them with Gay Rights heroes (for example). We need to keep our past front and center in this country because as it is, most of our youth don't have a clue even about current events, much less our history..

Rename Washington DC, I think old George would be glad his name is taken off of it. Rename it Hell
