Wimpy was famous for saying, "I would glady pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today." And, as we all can value the comedic content of the comment, I am sure, is this not also a concept all too common today? Does the power of advertising create a false sense of value that attracts the masses to indebt themselves now for products that really are not needed?

We can blame the media and advertising if you like, but the essential truth as I see it is that we, ourselves (or our human nature, if you prefer) are to blame.

We can never have enough of what we don't need. I, personally, am making a conscious effort to reduce 'what I have', and I'm constantly amazed at how much stuff I've accumulated over my lifetime, and how worthless most of it is.

When I first read the lead line I thought of all those people voting one way with less chance of gaining anything of value than buying a powerball ticket - then spending the next four years complaining. When really all they wanted was two Tickle Me Elmos. One on the ballot and one on the pillow at home No such luck. TME has value. Perhaps TM should replace MM as a write in candidate?
