"I generally oppose gun control, but I support the ban on assault weapons and I support a slightly longer waiting period to purchase a gun. With today’s Internet technology we should be able to tell within 72-hours if a potential gun owner has a record."

Trump is a lying sleaze. A perfect GOP candidate.

What makes him any different than a DEM candidate. One party, two faces, both left wing socialist fascists. The Government Party. When you say Republican you are saying Democrat in the same breath. And every one a lying sleaze.

If the idiot doesn't know that assault weapons are not legally available in America, then step aside now!

No firearm that it is legal for police and foot solider military to carry should be illegal for a private citizen to own.

That's true as long as you have the proper firearms license of which there are several 4-7 classes. Most of this goes back to the Federal Firearms Act of 19thirty something or another. Of Interest the proponent was Senator Thomas Dodd (father) who did have the Library of Congress translate Adolf Hitler's German Firearms Act and used much of it verbatim in the US version. Like Father Like Son and all of them left wing socialist fascists. Not an urban myth. I looked for numbers of the various licenses issued and could not find any source that stated the figures. To start use the Wikpedia reference and go from there. I got off when I looked at the table full of semiautomatic and non any kind of automatic weapons used in the survivors of the Waco massacre trial. None of which were automatic. All I thought about was Jackboot Janet Von Flamethrower Reno burning up those little kids and babies. Later I chanced to meet two people - separately. One former FBI and one former ATF. They had both resigned over the incident.

I think what sjatkins was saying is that we the people should not need to ask permission from the government to own the same firearms as the police and military employ. That Right was granted to us by the second amendment.

Rights weren't granted to us;. Rights were granted by us to the Government. One of the rights NOT granted was the right to keep and bear firearms and the Federal Government was further banned from infringing upon those rights. Now interpreted to mean as part of or not as part of a State Militia. Not federal military and not the federal reserves and not the federally owned and controlled National Guard. In some states the people gave rights to the States in this particular area

Common misconception government has no rights other than the rights granted and has no power to grant rights.

Like the difference between unalienable and inalienable which have now been blurred in modern English dictionaries

Or the concept of a living Constitution. It is but only in the ability of the people make changes through the amendment procedure. Ignorant of or ignoring it is not a right granted to anyone at any level.

The Haller vs Washington DC Supreme Court Case saw them ducking the question of 9th and 10th Amendment rights granted except for splitting the two parts. The Second Amendment when coupled with another section gives the federal government the responsibility to define well regulated as in Uniform Code of Military Justice, uniforms types of equipment etc.

Another right not granted is turning State employees into untouchable Federal Employees by banning the use of the recall for Senators and Representatives. The requirements for election to the office of State delegate to the federal goveernment sitting in Congress are clearly stated with age and place of birth for Pres/Vice-Pres. Age for the Congress and no requirements other than Presidential nomination and approval by the Senate for the Representatives. ALL else is left to the States. Until the selection of Senators turned them into Representatives At Large.thus began the dismantling of checks and balances.

But the notion that the government or the Constitution granted us rights is false. Other way around. Citizens Constitution and their employees the government in that order.

They are legally available in America. They are Class III firearms and available through that process, which involves an expanded background check, local law enforcement notification and a transfer fee.

With a Class III permit holder to document the transfer, anyone can own one as long as you pass the checks, and I don't know. Gun ownership is notoriously hard to pin down; were you asked by some telephone pollster if/how many guns you owned, would you tell the the truth? I wouldn't. I'd say "none of your damn business."
