Your child may be 35% less likely to engage in disordered eating, 24% more likely to eat healthier foods and 12% less likely to be overweight (Hammons & Fiese, 2011). All three of these statistics are attached to one family ritual—shared mealtimes.

All I can say is that I'd give the world to be able to sit down with my parents and brother to a cold balony sandwich just once more...

I think they do make a positive difference. In our home, dinner is when we put away phones and turn off the TV. Sometimes, it's the first and last time of the day when I can look someone in the eye and have an uninterrupted conversation. This is when we talk about what has happened and how we will try to affect tomorrow. Some of the best, most memorable, and important conservations have happened around a dinner table. I think this tradition, at least for my family, will continue as long as we're around.

Yeah, it's an important time. We often have dinner together. But, I've noticed that if I sit in another room, my kids are more restless and really could care less about the meal. It's pretty clear that, perhaps biologically, there is some significance there.
