As several commentators on the site said, since they were 7,000 short of the 30,000 they probably weren't going to fund anyway so the troll didn't really sink their chances -- it raised their hopes.

  I think the main issue was the way Kickstarter security finally found the troll, and deleted the pledge. I think they felt they should have had an extension of the time equal to that the troll sucked up. I am not in disagreement with that idea. Kickstarter is a good thing overall but some of their rules are a bit strange and draconian.
