I really want a battery back up large enough for my house and a few of my critical CNC machines at my shop. So far the technology has not been there, or affordable. I have battery backup (uninterruptible power supplies) for all of the computers on my network. They are terrific for allowing us to save our work and shut down but do not provide power for very long, The batteries in the units do not last very long either. Every few years I must replace either the batteries or the entire unit. I like the idea, but do not believe the government should subsidize them.
