Directive 10-289

I think I figured out why Ayn Rand chose the numbers 10-289. The 10 is a reference to October, specifically the October Revolution in Russia and the 289 represents the number 25. (2 x 8 +9). Remember, the assault on Petrograd occurred on October 25, 1917. I believe Miss Rand had this date in mind when writing about the Directive.

Well today is Oct. 20th 2016, early voting here in NC. Getting ready to vote for Trump/Pence, but I have a strong feeling the election is in HC's crooked hands...and Directive 10-289 is no longer just words out of Atlas Shrugged, but a reality in 2016.

    WD-40, stands for Water-dispersant Formula 40.

10-289, could be the 10th Ford Mustang with a 289 Engine, or she had 289 students in her school when she was in 10th grade. Maybe she owed 10,289 dollars to the IRS one year.

I could go on and on :)

Pretty cool. I noticed that Harry Truman signed Executive Order 10289 in 1951. I was also thinking that the 289th day of the year is October 16th but I'm not sure it means much.

      Thank you.
Ayn was a 12 year old eye witness to the beginning of the Russian Revolution. I believe this experience echoed throughout all her writings.

Agreed. She does not impress me as someone who would have just picked a number out of thin air. I like your theory. I haven't been able to find any articles where we she talked about it.

Well, that is just as sound as all the theories on why Rolling Rock Beer has a "33" printed inside the bottle. And what the "33" means.
