"Good" and "evil" to many is merely a function of mindset. To devout socialists, they truly believe that what they are doing is "good" because that is how they have defined their own morality. But one also has to realize that containerized within this mindset is the elitism that differentiates between the elites (rulers) and the working class (serfs). These devout socialists all see themselves as the elites - not the serfs - because they view themselves as having a more perfect vision and therefore being "ordained" to lead over the rest of us clueless peons. The virtues of the ruling class and its perks then become totally justifiable even though they are anything but just.

Is this morality realistic? Not to any objective observer, you are absolutely correct.
