I was reading a bio. of Frank Capra, the movie director who made the perennial Christmas favorite It's A Wonderful Life. I remember seeing his movies as a kid and the many times the were replayed on TV. Mr. Deeds Goes To Town and Mr. Smith Goes To Washington are a couple of his memorable films. Some critics say he made movies of an America that never was. Others, like me, say his movies were of an America that could and should be. He was born in Sicily in 1897, and came to America when he was 6 years old.Unlike American directors of today, he didn't deal with such subjects as race, gender and sexuality. He looked at America in terms of moral principles that can be shared and lived up to. He believed that our Constitutional Inheritance of liberty and equal rights is fundamentally good and that it's the duty of each generation to make those ideas live. Most importantly, he believed in celebrating the deeds of ordinary people who exercise the virtues which maintain those ideas. Quite a contrast to the movies of today. It is one of the reasons why Atlas Shrugged stands out like a beacon among the film fare of today.

Had the pleasure of working with someone who just came to America last year. He said he felt that America was the last place that he could make a better life for his family. It was refreshing to hear that.
