Given the era, it's a pretty well designed boat. With a riveted hull however, she's not going very deep. At least not more than once. On a related topic, I saw a photo of Vlad the Bad inspecting a new Indian home designed and built sub, and of course, it was going to strike terror into the hearts of the West, blah, blah, blah. The interesting thing was that in the photo Putin was standing by the hatch on the outer casing and, you guessed it! Riveted hull! DING DING DING! We have a loser!
If they took their lessons from the Russians they may have a double hull, with the inner welded and the outer riveted, though riveting is a rather barbaric way to do it, but would not effect performance. The russians love double hulls.
The rivets are all hard point that will cause turbidity and cavitation at speed. You don't need much by way of high tech listening gear to hear a Foxtrot go by!
Thank you for your service from a leatherneck.
I bounced around like a BB in a beer can for 23 years.
