Joan & I stopped into a franchise of the regional high-end coffee chain, Dazbog Coffee.

Inside, I read the story of company founders.

They will get my repeat business.

Thanks for an interesting morning bit of research. I recognized the god's name, but did not remember his attributes, so I looked him up on Wikipedia. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Da%C5%BEbo...) There has been a LOT more discovered about this pagan god since I wrote a little pamphlet on Russian pagan deities back in the 80's. Wow. Fascinating.

So: Dazbog is one of the oldest gods of the Slavic pantheon, and he was equated by the ancient Greeks with Hephaestus (my favorite mythic deity). His name means 'giving' (Dazj) and 'god' (bog). But 'bog' itself originally meant 'prosperity' or 'fortune'.

So the coffeeshop may be considered to be named 'giving prosperity'. Nice name, eh?

    Jan, happily nerdy

Holy smoke! C'mon, it's only coffee. I know that some folks are coffee lovers, but gimmee a break. I never have understood the desire to drink strong black coffee. I have this fantasy of a friendly alien tasting it and asking, "You actually drink this stuff for pleasure?" OK, I get the caffeine high, but to me the taste is...well, it's blech. I do drink it, however, once I put in some sweetener and vanilla Coffee-Mate.

      I'm a big coffee drinker.
At least one cup a day.
For me, a place like Dazbog is a weekend treat, not an everyday expense.

For some time now, I've been on the look out for businesses which hold the same values that I do.
These businesses get preferred status in my weekly expenses.

Even down to a lowly cup of coffee.

So, I asked a friend of mine who spoke Russian what Dazbog (даст бог) meant.

He said it meant "God gives".

So, I'm going to assume that this is a Christian based company.

Not ideal, but not Marxist... and I'm more concerned with the Marxists at the moment.
I'm not sure which side of the fence Starbucks falls on, but I suspect some flavor of corporate-cronyism.

So, Dazbog will get my monetary support up until the day a Galtspresso franchise hits the market.

    Galtspresso... think about it.

Just did a quick search. No Dazbogs in Bama.
Just like there were not AS3s in a theater.
Finally received AS3 via Netflix a couple of weeks ago.
Thought what Big Brother did to Galt was . . . shocking.

At least the company name is giving tribute to one of the Slavic Deities. I'm Slavic myself hence my ID is from a family story from my Grandmother who was a Polish peasant. My two favorite Gods of that pantheon is Sventovit and Veles. I'm going to purchase some of their coffee on that link.
