I find this nothing more than CYA and trying to razzle dazzle that they are opposed to Isis. When the 'good' guys take up arms against Isis it will show their intent, until then it just CYA.j

At first I thought, finally, other Muslims are stepping up. After reading this I found it to be almost political in it's wording. If this is a letter designed to oppose ISIS then state their crimes against Islam and explain why ISIS is wrong. These points are too vague and not directed pointedly enough at ISIS and Al Qaeda. I don't want or need a lesson on Islam. Just get these idiots to stop killing people.

An executive summary of 24 points
    A comment said-
“A day late and a dollar short”
but it is a step in the right direction.

I find the pragmatism of Point 5 particularly interesting. It opens up a challenge to rigid and literal applications of the barbaric sections of the scriptures.
"It is forbidden in Islam to ignore the reality of contemporary times when deriving legal rulings."

I'm not sure I see anything that comforting about it. It states you can 't harm those of the scripture and the "innocent" but it does not state what comprises innocence and if it 's acceptable to harm those not "of the scriptures " It still supports jihad. You could interpret point 5 to mean almost anything. Statements such as you can 't deny women their rights. Well since under Sharia women don 't have many rights that 's weak. The only decent one I saw was children can 't be
harmed. So as an adult female atheist I don 't feel too comforted by this

a): A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
b): Don't put the champers in the cooler yet.
c): I am reminded of those pics of women in Iran and Afghanistan- in 1970, and 2010.
The 1970 pics show serious looking women in western clothes, waiting for a bus, in a lab, in a schoolroom. In 2010, hair and faces are covered in black. So I reckon if Islam can wind back 40 or 50 years, it would be progress. Then, maybe it could move forward.
