Hemingway had a little ore to say:

“Every man’s life ends the same way. It is only the details of how he lived and how he died that distinguish one man from another.” ~ Ernest Hemmingway

This event strikes me as a glorious way to go.

I find this exciting- scary and exciting. I admire someone willing to put her life on the line for something she believes in. I hope it happens. I like to think of mankind moving forward into new frontiers.

100 candidates, just like in Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars Trilogy.

I love the dream, but I think this is a dream without a complete plan. I'll be pleasantly surprised if they get together the means of getting people, habitats, and supplies to Mars.

I would like to see someone do the same thing but with more people and locate it on an inhospitable place on Earth. It could be a mountain, remote desert, arctic location, or under water. The purpose would be not exploration but an objectivist business incubator, conference center, and resort-- the beginnings of a veritable "Gulch".
