    That's a very interesting read. Many moons ago I was doing metallurgy research at Boeing. At that time I was working with aluminum alloys that were in the strength range of steel. If you have flown on a 777 you were lifted by one particular alloy I helped select in the structure. Fantastic metals for aircraft! Now, they're going to more composites (plastic crap).

    It sounds like the work these guys are doing is resulting in a metal a little more complicated to process/handle than your common "skyscraper" steel. Note the cold working mentioned in the article, and the special tempering. Good read...brings back memories.

    Big boost to transportation industry and fuel savings. I think electric cars will be beneficiary, and might compete with the light weight diesel engine for my sports car (that doubles as a private plane.) Elon Musk might be a good partner.
