Well done Mr. Chaffetz.

Chaffetz told CNN Wednesday he had no use for an official portrait — an expensive perk he considers elitist and antiquated.

I don't agree in the slightest that having a portrait done is elitist or antiquated. Personal pet peeve, can you imagine???
That said, kudos to not spending tax dollars on such a thing. If it's from one's own personal funds, have at it, if that floats your boat. Otherwise, government reining itself in is refreshing to say the least!

Googled to check reference to article I read about him in dentists office this week and this was first item listed. He is going to be a very interesting person to watch.
Also found it interesting that Baseball gave up its exemption in 2007 , and that Basketball was never exempt.

Pity the "rankled committee members" of our privileged and entitled more than equal elite betters.
Oh, the mental anguish and woeful sorrow wrought by so an Oversight sleight! .
    Tradition is trashed, y'all!
What is money for if you do not get to blow it?
That's the Big Brother why for taxes!
    Oh, boo-hoo-hoo!

So, at the Article V convention we amend the constitution to 1) limit compensation for elected officials to the median income of their constituents. 2) clearly and specifically eliminate all perquisites, 3) term limit any elected official to 18 years in any one position (total time), 4) change the election cycle to 3 years with each off-year election to include a "no confidence" option (congressional term of 3 years; Presidential term of 6 years; Senatorial term of 9 years -- w/ vote of confidence every 3 years.

Thank god!! Finally getting people that realize that they work for us and not the other way around and, are not delusional about their true worth. American "aristocracy" need not apply!!

I assume he would pose for an official snapshot. But I can see why he doesn't want to make the taxpayers shell out for a portrait in oil, or even for a portrait on film.
