She wrote some great books, lived through incredible times and gave us our best look into communism thru "we the living".
Cool she hung out at Playboy, dang wasn't that my favorite mag as a teenager.
And yes we must always keep that sense of humor.
    Have Fun,
    Will

I just love remembering that Rand was a real,
three-dimensional living being, just like you and me,
but gifted with insight for the ages. . she was, to
human interaction, as Einstein was to physics --
a timeless value ... with a sense of humor and
a genuine appreciation for people of all sorts. . the
intellectual mom whom I always wanted, and got,
after all. . when I found her, life was suddenly
      freedom, a thrill a second!!! -- j

I have, over the years, found certain people who think it is frivolous to be humorous about any aspect of life that collides with Objectivism. I'm glad Ms. Grossinger's tale of Randian humor exists, otherwise many would get the impression that being humorous within Objectivism is like telling a dirty joke in church.

I could easily picture a mischievous Ayn Rand smirking away as she told those Italian journalists that all the Playboy bunnies had to sleep with Hugh Hefner in front of the dumbfounded PR person she was pretending to be.
I'm new to Ayn Rand compared to many in the Gulch and I am now appreciating a far more well-rounded look at the lady.

There are always a few people that latch on to a philosophy or set of beliefs because it makes them feel safe and the world orderly (which it is not or will ever be). Any disturbance to their image of the personality associated or seeming contradiction to their understanding of the philosophy is met with fear and an automatic fight or flight response.

Those so-called Acolytes who wrote letters of denial do not live the principles Ayn wrote about, they need the principles to live. Just another trap for which they sacrifice themselves.

I call BS on that story at the Playboy club. Ok, before you say I'm wrong, let me clarify. I actually believe every word of the event of the club, but call BS on the supposed hate mail Tania received afterward. This is a typical straw man article of the left. Write something they believe will drive us crazy, then accuse us of writing hate mail to prove how bigoted and hateful we are.
Anyone who has studied Rand at all would know that she had a very mischievous sense of humor. I have no problem believing that this happened.
