"The point of this whole discussion is to make sure you keep the risk factors in mind, no matter which vendors you partner with. Retooling or transferring everything you're doing is possible, but it can be very painful and very expensive."

    He left out that

    1. The company storing your data may cease to exist entirely or suffer physical destruction of its own equipment. Storing your data in "The Cloud" isn't magic, it means storing it on someone else's equipment.

    2. The 'hacking' threat is much worse than he mentions. Hacking, intercepting, and tracking are now routine everywhere -- practiced by everyone from the malicious, to Big Data, to the government.

"The Cloud" is one factor in the current trend to eliminate the original concept of the "personal computer" in which you can do anything you want on your own machine. It is being replaced by an "appliance" mentality under which you do what you are told to do and don't do what you are told not to by centralized control by a company or government that completely controls functionality and (lack of) privacy to every detail.
