I Am Rich and Liberal. What Can I Do?
Editorial by
Mark Woodley
01/05/2015

Since 2008, there has been a lot of talk about "Fair Share", the One Per-centers, Warren Buffet complaining about not being taxed enough, Hollywood elite expending a lot of air-time talking about how unfair it is the "rich" have so much, and need to be taxed more.
During all these conversations, editorials and coverage, I began to think well, since the Government has already established tax laws, and accountants follow these rules, those different forms of income are and will continue to be taxed at the rates set forth by t he House Ways and Means Committee, the group that writes the IRS codes.
But what if I am an ultra rich person, with a liberal mindset, who feels guilty about all the money I have and want to give more to the government than what I am mandated to pay.
Well fear not. I am going to help all of those who think they do not pay their fair share and want to resolve that issue annually. My grandfather always said put your money where your mouth is, so here is YOUR means to do just that.
http://www.publicdebt.treas.gov/fsfaq/fs...
http://www.treasurydirect.gov/govt/resou...
Oprah who is worth a whopping 2+ billion and supported President Obama in his runs for office, can certainly afford to send in to the Government a billion or so, after all how much money does she need, vs. all the poor starving kids in this country who do not have two parents, or good schools and do not enjoy the privilege she does.
Our president talks all the time about the rich paying their fair share. What better group to take advantage of the above links than the Hollywood Elite as well as the liberal politicians like Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid. With all the money they have, I am hoping they will all just send in money to the Federal Government. I am hoping that the President and his wife will send in a lot themselves.
Stop talking about people not paying their faire share, here is the tool where YOU can put your conviction where it counts. Send in all your money to the government. They make it easy too, you can use your credit/debit card.
So before you tell someone else they are not paying enough. Send in YOUR money and lead by example. Only then can you justly complain about someone else not paying what you feel is "Their Fair Share."

I am rich and conservative. I earned it the old fashion way---I worked for it. I pay more than my fair share in taxes. What drives me nuts is how the government spends my money.

Just donate to local charities, and then shut up and spend it. We don't want to hear it otherwise.

For your information, I give substantial amounts to the local charities by my own free will. I will not shut up.

I do not really think that was directed directly at "you". The reference was in context of the editorial I wrote regarding the Liberals who demand everyone else pay something while they sit in their cushy million dollar homes driving their gas guzzling vehicles. "crystalquartz" I am pretty sure was referring to the hypocrites of the world who as Abe Lincoln said "With some the word liberty may mean for each man to do as he pleases with himself, and the product of his labor; while with others the same word may mean for some men to do as they please with other men, and the product of other men’s labor." Liberals tend to want to do with other people and other peoples labor what they want.

I am sure you donate more in one month that Joe Biden does in 5 years. Per his tax returns he donates less than $400.00/year. Joe Biden's net worth is $600,000.00. Which in political terms is very modest, which is interesting since his salary is $203,000/year, and his wife since 2009, she has been a professor of English at Northern Virginia Community College earning $88,000/year. You would think they could donate a bit more that $400.00 to charity considering their totally liberal streak.

I say excellent that you donate to charity, but it is those who want to FORCE people and not do something themselves I believe the "shut-up" was referring to.

Come on, don't you know that all these people are hypocrites. They don't want to pay more but they want everybody else to pay more. Look at what happened at Harvard with insurance. All the faculty backed O and his infamous healthcare program. However, now they are up in arms because the healthcare premiums went up. Oh the hypocrisy. Remember the progressive way, it is good for the masses but not for the elite.

The chickens have come to roost closer than the news reports have revealed. Gruber learned his lessons well. He was an economics undergraduate at MIT but got his PhD from Harvard before going back to MIT to teach his theories. His Harvard PhD thesis and his whole 'career' have been devoted to government control of health care.

You need to realize that your wealth didn't come on your own merits. Other people made you that money, so you don't deserve it. Therefore you need to find all kinds of causes to champion with your ill-gotten gains - and we'll be happy to suggest to you which ones.

    Cordially,
    Liberals

I hate that old bag (Elizabeth Warren). It's really amazing how the libs will be drawn like moths to the light and for a conservative, the same rhetoric is like kryptonite.

Big Chief Running Mouth (the bag in question) is now the hero of the progressives, to the left of what Hilary has been willing to say in public.

Who are the biggest animals who don't pay their share? The Hippo -- Crites. Notice, I didn't add fair. In every single case of Liberals unburdening their conscience, it winds up that the burden of their unburdening falls upon everyone else. To all the lefties out there, I say, Lead By Example! For some reason, it never seems to work that way in the liberal mindset.

There is an item on the Massachusetts state income tax form to voluntarily pay a higher percentage of income in taxes. It is there because years ago a pro-taxpayer group (Citizens for Limited Taxation and Government) proposed it as a joke to call out the liberal hypocrites. It was taken seriously and put into law as a means for the state to get more money. Almost no one selects the option.

As Warren Buffet and the IRS scandal prove, liberals don't want to raise taxes on themselves, they want to use them as weapons against those they do not like.

If any congressman was serious about raising revenue they would simplify the tax code significantly and lower the rates significantly, but then they could not hand out favors for donations.

It's not about the liberals paying their "fair share." It's about them controlling others.

Right! We should be able to easily make do with a lot less if the US Government decided to become 1) more efficient, and 2) we worked on teaching a man to fish, instead of giving a man a fish.

If you give a man a fish, you can count on his vote for the rest of his life. If you teach a man to fish, you run the risk that he might start thinking for himself and begin to take some pride in his independence.

        See why that won't happen?

I see why it won't happen for progressive dems, but smarter republicans should love it.

Sure they should. But since the Depression, we've been headed in the opposite direction. Maybe longer - I think it began with the direct election of Senators. Now every election is an auction, with candidates competing to see who can offer voters more of someone else's stuff.

I'm not certain we *can* turn it around at this point. We may have gone too far down that path.

Doesn't work anymore. I've got a post or comments on another thread about my own county which runs 2 golf courses, a taxi service, and an old age home. And we are one of the more conservative counties in the state - yet nobody on the county board sees a problem with those things (nor seemingly the residents).

This has nothing to do with the already rich "paying their fair share." It has everything to do with the ultra-rich securing their hold on power by preventing anyone else from rising to their elite status. Because they already have a secure hand on the levers of power, rest assured any new tax laws will clamp the lid down tight on the middle class (which is really where most of the income revenue is, as there are many more of them than of the rich) to prevent them from rising to wealth.

I respectfully and completely disagree. ANYONE, I repeat ANYONE in this country can become ultra wealthy. There is NOTHING holding anyone back except themselves and their personal aversion to risk.
      Read this article:

There are so many more and lets not forget about the Author of the Harry Potter series. The list of million airs and billionaires in the US is staggering.

I have personally found that the biggest hindrance to wealth are the intellectual elitists who pound down peoples self esteem with tier own personal self-importance.

I didn't say it hasn't been possible, or isn't possible today to be successful, but many of the elite aren't comfortable with the "nuveau riche" and are supporting changes that make the rise to wealth more difficult. One error: J. K. Rowling (author of the Harry Potter series) is a British citizen, not American.

I find it amazing that so many people think, oops, what a misnomer, assume they know what is everyone else should do, but as the post states, they should really stop the noise and send the money to the gov't and leave my money alone!

What Buffett never says when shilling for higher taxes is that his company, Berkshire Hathaway, has NEVER paid dividends, he accepts only a relatively modest salary of $100,000/year, and he doesn't sell shares, so he pays no capital gains tax. Moreover, he's leaving the major part of his estate to Bill Gates' foundation. Thus, he legally avoids paying "his fair share." There is a lot to admire about Buffett, but his tax proclamation is not one of them.

The irony is there is NOTHING illegal about what Buffet does or anyone who takes advanatage of the IRS tax avoidance options.

Obama himself annually gifts $12,000.00 per year to each of his daughters which he naturally deducts from his tax liability, so as far I am can see Obama is not paying his fair share either, and continually demonstrates his total hypocrisy.

Perhaps this is just shakedown speech. If the rich won't donate more to our campaigns we will threaten them with tax increases. It has the added benefit of galvanizing the poor, who have nothing to donate, behind the party of handouts.

“Warren Buffet complaining about not being taxed enough “

The golden rule says do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
So if Warren wants to be taxed more, then does the GR gives him license to make it so others will get taxed more as well?

As much as I would like to see the hypocrisy addressed, it would likely only encourage the government to grow and waste more. If all payments beyond what is legally owed went straight to the debt.. then maybe, but I don't trust them as far as I could throw the Capitol building.

stay rich and become an objectivist, that will take time but if you were the source of earning your money you must be bright and if that is the case you should become an objectivist relatively quickly. of course that will entail reading all of Ayn Rand's books.so get started!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The whole point of the entire thing, means, if you work, liberal or conservative, you get rich; or at least make some substantial money.

If you are a beggar, then you never get rich or make any substantial money.

Hell, gang... I thought the 'right answer' was "run for Congress or the Presidency and get even MORE 'richer' and liberal at the same time"!

Seems to work for most Congressional Liberals and Presidents..

From the Environmental Grantmakers Association 1992 Fall Retreat for leaders and funders of the viro movement at the posh Rosario Resort in the San Juan Islands off the coast of Washington state. This was a closed meeting discussing how to contend with the growing private property movement defending against viro impositions to take and control other people's private property. (They didn't know the recording of the session was about to leak out.)

BARBARA [DUDLEY? Executive Director, North Shore Unitarian Universalist, Veatch Program, Plandome, NY]:
"This is a class issue. There is no question about it. It is true that the environmental movement is, has been, traditionally as someone said over the last three days sitting up at the podium, this has been in the past an upper class conservation, white movement. We have to face that fact. It's true. They're not wrong that we are rich and, you know, they are up against us. We are the enemy as long as we behave in that fashion."

if you are rich and liberal, never forget the capitalistic system that allowed you to BE rich. Also, never feel guilty for having what you have. Beyond that, you might want to spend some money to help those who arent rich actually learn how to become rich themselves
