Atlas Shrugged / The Trilogy on BluRay
Now available is the multi disc set which includes all three of the films as well as disc’s containing lots of extra’s. By now you have seen the films. Now you have the chance to own a well packaged collection containing all three films nicely assembled and with new extra’s not available on previous discs.
The ASIII transfer looks terrific except one scene of a vehicle in motion that looks a lot darker on disc than it did in the theater. When the car with JG and DT approaching the party house for her 1st evening out in the Gulch the lighting of the scene at twilight is much darker on the BR disc than on the big screen. The reuse of Elia Cmiral’s theme “Celebration at Wyatt’s” from ASI create a set up for a wonderful intro for Dagny to the folks in the Gulch. This 45 second theme is #14 on the soundtrack CD. Like the “John Galt Theme” and “The Opening of the John Galt Line” Elia has found a way to recreate the greatest triumphant moments of his ASI score and incorporate into ASIII.
He has let me know his score is amongst 114 scores in final consideration for an Oscar nomination. We can only hope he makes it to the final 5.
The new set includes a flimsy but creative outer shell with the AS film logo. The set includes all three films in the metallic shells with ASI appearing in Rearden Metal, ASII in Copper and ASIII in Gold with the Sign of the Dollar. A separate plastic sleeve holds the three BluRay containers in packaging that makes the set look like three different colored books.
Extra’s on the movie disc include a 30 minute review of the political and artistic aspects of the series. Other extra’s include a bunch of 2 to 4 minute shorts featuring the main actors and their characters. Also the unforgettable interview of Kristoffer Polaha not because of the info imparted but because of the volleyball size microphone used by the interviewer. I as surprised she could hold it up for over a minute. The 30 minute plus feature “I Am John Galt” is another fun view with all the fans who submitted the videos making an impossible to verify claim. Additional short extra’s include film interns working on the scene where Dagny flies out of the Gulch. Many contributors to the Kick Starter Campaign actually got to appear in the opening scene where JG makes his statement at the 20th Century Motor Co. Their short sequence is a good inclusion. A 2nd disc has longer features which tie in the film to Ayn Rand’s philosophy.
This is a limited edition set. I’m good. Mine is in hand. I recommend you do the same ASAP. Find out, once and for all, the answer to the question “Who is John Galt?”. You probably already have a good idea.
