AN OPEN LETTER TO BLOOMBERG'S SHEELAH KOLHATKAR, ON THE DELICATE MATTER OF ANITA SARKEESIAN (#GamerGate, it's not going away)

Breibart's Milo Yiannopoulos goes right at Bloomberg's Sheelah Kolhatkar for her party-line piece on anti-#GamerGate feminist Anita Sarkeesian.

This is why I posted that large overview recently: this issue is complex and it's not going away.

Maybe I'm naive, but for one journalist, speaking for their organization calls out another journalist speaking for this - I consider that pretty big.

I think he hit the nail on the head when he called her a sociopath. Her goal is not to advance ideas rather to destroy. Is it even clear she was a gamer? As another feminist remarks about AS 's criticism of Hunger Games -it's not even clear she read the books. If so, the intent never was journalistic analysis with academic integrity. The only answer is second hander.

There is so much going on in this issue that it's hard to get a full understanding of it.

I first saw the video of Sarkeesian promoting a marketing type seminar a couple of weeks ago, but the import of that didn't click.

However, after reading this piece which really hits on her experience in that world, I have a better personal understanding of Sarkeesian.

      I don't doubt that she's a rad-fem grinding an axe.
      But foremost, she's a marketing seminar self-promoter.
She has identified a group of people who, looking for meaning and easy answers, will probably open up their wallets.

I've said before that Marxism is a religion.
Sarkeesian is pretty damned close to a televangelist.

Actually, jdg, I have been researching this topic for quite a while now.

I have posted an extensive list of links here:
          http://www.galtsgulchonline.com/posts/1a...

I will eventually get around to the link you posted but I should point out that when:
          1) the source is The Washington Post,
          2) the image is one of Anita Sarkeesian,
          3) the title claims to be "The only guide to [x] you will ever need to read",
I already know what's in store for me.

Do I deny that there have been heinous threats?
          No.
But no one who has made those threats has been positively identified, and the GamerGate movement strongly denounces the threats and the threateners.

Having been very involved in Tea Party activities from it's inception, I always cast a skeptical eye when I get a whiff of Alinsky.
And there's a whole lot of Alinsky going on from the anti-GamerGate side.

Thank you for the link to your prior post. When that thread was new, I was quite busy, so I only scanned it and did not look at it closely.

SF and Fantasy used to be considered venues aimed at juvenile males. I read articles about how bad these genre were for young adults to read because they made us believe in impossible things like space travel or robots. And most of the heroes in early SF were male (except for James Schmitz' work). Now, many of the nay-sayers are silent on the evils of SF/F, as they chat on their computers about landing on an asteroid or remark on the billions of dollars made by the latest super-hero movie.

And now, many of the protagonists and authors are women. If more women start gaming, there will be a change in the culture. Let the gamers alone.

I have scant knowledge of gaming, though many of the people I know are waaay into it. The idea that the content of adult's self-selected entertainment has to be subject to politically correct censors is something I do not favor. One does wonder where to draw the line, however: are animated snuff or child porn films OK? Emotionally, I would say No, but when I analyze the facts I cannot figure out my own logic.

I'd say yes to both. As long as real people aren't being harmed to make the film, there's no reason to start down the slope of censorship.

Last sentence in the initial post should read:
Maybe I'm naive, but for one journalist, speaking for their organization, calls out another journalist speaking for theirs - I consider that pretty big.
