It's hard to pick one favorite quote from the article b/c it summarizes what I took away from AS in two pages.
"How do we get this bountiful harvest? Watch any hardworking American. We create it by working hard year after year, and by wanting excellence for ourselves and our loved ones."

I heard Glenn Beck telling the story of the early Puritans the other day. He talked about how they started with a socialist economy, and many perished as a result. Similar to the downfall of 20th century motors, typically the stronger workers got tired of working for everyone else. Then they privatized the land, and the free market resulted in surplus crops. Beck said they shared with the Indians and this is the story of Thanksgiving. I think his facts are a little skewed, but he tells a good story.

Here is a better account of the Puritan economic experiments. It is a free book download. Very much favoring free markets.

The CSM is one of the best journalistic publications remaining. Despite being an arm of the Church, it is pretty even-handed in its journalism.

This story is beginning to spread wider and wider. It is a good thing.

While we are at it, let's just redefine "thanks" and all climb the existential empire state building and jump off.

    Just sickening.

If you're so determined to commit suicide by jumping off the Empire State Building, why aren't you thankful to the architect, contractors, financiers, and designers who built it? Yeah, I know you said "existential." But the point is to be thankful that there are those among us who through their ability to produce has given us the freedom and wealth we can be thankful for.
