Here is a good website explaining, with scientific proof, that CO2 is not the great global warming beast they make it out to be.

      Objectively as a data set this is interesting. It sure looks to me like long ago the earth was not in equilibrium, but is reaching a steady-state now (long term trend). Looks like a simple first, order step response, like the temperature in a room after changing the thermostat.

      Lots of noise in the data set, but I bet that is due to significant inaccuracies, increasing backwards in time in calculations from the data samples.

        The most interesting thing about it (to me*) is that as the temperature has become cooler, the amplitude of the climatic shifts has increased tremendously.

          Yep. Nice info.

          Global warming is not the issue. We need to explain the real issue: Middle East relevance.

          50 years ago a group of cave peoples won the lotto, and we are dealing with the consequences of their version of "the rich white trash in the bad neighborhood".

          That is the reason to seek energy independence, to reduce the necessity to spend monies and lives on silly asymmetric warfare. Nuclear, biofuels and our own oil & gas, these are the right weapons, but stop the monies flowing to those cave peoples, and yawn at the result.

        What I thought was the opposite: The Smithsonian was making it pretty obvious that the global temperature has nothing to do with Homo sap. Back 6 million years or so, when our closest relatives were the Miocene apes, the temperature was a LOT warmer. So much for technology warming the earth.

        I will look more closely at the near end of the temp chart (having some connection problems right now) and see if I have a better answer for you.

    Gary Novak is not an expert in physics, but he claims to be. He has rewritten fundamental physics to his liking. He apparently does not even understand vectors. See this critique of his work:

    Happer had the privilege of being fired from the Department of Energy by Al Gore (back in 1993) for refusing to believe Gore's take on global-warming science. "Science will not intrude on policy," Gore apparently said.

      Well Snezzy, that does seem somewhat negative for Mr. Novak. I liked your second link, except I got lost in the math concepts. I am not sure if this becomes dueling banjos, with everyone taking out their personal dislikes with each other by trashing their credentials. It almost seems they take refuge in each others arguments to prove that theirs is correct. I would like to see some of them condense this into some more basic, but provable descriptions that are easier to understand. That was what the GoreMonster came up with to make all his money off it, he turned it into a song and dance show and now his Church of the End of the World is paying dividends. Happer is up on points simply for being fired by Gore.....

    Kinda too bad. When the world HAS been warmer (rather than colder) mankind has done a little better. (It can be too cold to get out and go stuff; it seldom is too hot)

    there has been quite a bit written over the past 40 years debunking earths warming and as we now know it is cooling. all that need to be said is that "al gore is conspicuous by his absence".

    Very interesting website. He shows another reason the AGW prophets are blowing smoke. The problem of modeling temperatures on Earth in the atmosphere and the oceans is very complex. Suggesting it is just CO2 levels is without any supporting evidence.

    Doesn't anybody realize that, Science be damned, its all about control of the productive mass. Those who support Progressive Governance Theory (Marxism, Socialism, Communism, National Socialism [regardless of form] and other unnamed Oligarchies) do so for the sole purpose of personal gain from Control of the Masses.
    Does anybody really think a skinny, High Yellow pot smoking punk for Hawaii, a purported Ph.D. of Political Science [Nobody who I think matters has seen the transcripts] dreamed this up? Not just no, but Hell no.
    The media and all the Sheep are being led to the slaughter in the Union of Socialist Republics of Amerika, happily texting each other about it.
    This did not start with Barrack Obama, aka Barry Soweto, and a dozen other pseudonyms, you can trace its insidious fingers all the way back to the cheating conniving bureaucrats of Federalism under the incompetent drunkard, Andrew Jackson.
    Some claim Madison's Grand Experiment is dying, well, I'm here to tell you that it died in 1829, and the citizens, using that term loosely, some might prefer cattle, remain too ignorant to realize it happened.

    Oh... no... That's not a good website at all.

    There is a lot of misunderstood physics there leading to a lot of rather bad conclusions. The page may have been written by someone who took a few undergrad physics classes, but more likely by someone who read a few articles in an old Scientific American but didn't have the solid background in physics to correctly process the data.

    Sorry, but all that stuff that supposedly rings true really doesn't. What it does indicate is a gaping hole in the author's understanding of gas-photon interactions.

      BTW: If anyone is curious I'd be willing to explain that the 'warming' due to CO2 is in fact real, and just about matches the Alarmist claims of 5 degrees F since the dawn of the Industrial Revolution (1859).

      What folks have to keep in mind is that the warming has occurred in a *part* of the atmosphere that is really cold; NOT in the *whole* atmosphere in general, just a portion.

      It is a fact that CO2 has caused part of the atmosphere to warm from -152F to -148F in the past 150 odd years. The math doesn't lie, and the physics is too well understood to deny it.

      The reason I despise the Alarmists is because their extrapolations based on that conclusion are full of {excrement}!

      That's why I've started calling them #ChickenLittleAlarmists because they're worried that the sky is falling.

    It would be great if this turned out to be true. Most of it sounds plausible to my non-expert mind. I like stories of people with unconventional ideas turning out to be right. It would be bonus if it were something we all wish were right.

    8% of IR emitted from earth is absorbed by CO[2]. --> Rings true, but I have no idea.

    Most absorption of IR by CO2 is in a few narrow absorption bands. --> Rings true. A ratio of absorption within the bands vs outside the bands would be helpful.

    These bands attenuate so much that even very low concentrations completely absorb the IR, so concentration doesn't matter. --> Rings true

    All the IR energy outside of these absorption peaks is almost completely absorbed by water in the atmosphere --> Does not ring true.

    CO[2] does not reflect IR at all. --> I am almost certain this is true.

    If the whole reasoning were true, one of the biggest problems of our time just disappears.

      It won't DISAPPEAR because socialist politicians and bureaucrats use the fear created to justify new rules and regulations and therefor taxes to increase there stranglehold on the economy. That's how they control 35% of GDP that you keep complaining about.about. Woodrow Wilson FDR Johnson Carter Clinton Obama all raise the % of tax, then throw in the Bushes and Nixon, how can you not see this ?

        This is appeal to final consequences. Even if scientific inquiry resulted in 35% of GDP being controlled by the gov't, I would still not hide from the truth. Fortunately in this case science has nothing to do with gov't expenditures as a share of GDP.

          If the science is used as a canard to intact all manner of new carbon tax and fees for our own good that is exactly the point . The feds spend $2 billion on climate studies all pointing to "conciseness " of the settled warming science so all the deniers can be shamed into silence.. 17 trillion in debt and 100 trillion in unfunded obligations is the final consequence of the nanny state, proof enough for all but the most comitted statists. Well done
