With all due respect to the OP, you could fill up this forum all day with these types of stories because the entire Government, with rare exception, is full of irrationality.

I would vote, politely at that, for Gulchers to bypass posting these stories and keep to the topics which require actual thought.

This clearly demonstrates the mindset of the left. It is important to understand that they do not believe that their ideas have lost and they intend on going full speed ahead with their progressive agenda. We also need to be prepared for what comes next.

I don't know anything about the ups and downs of the political parties, but my long-term impression of the Democrats is they don't have a clear underpinning. They have a laundry lists of complaints. They'd like to help people pay for their medicine, stop phone companies from ripping you off with fees, protect the environment, and so on.

The Republicans OTOH have two clear ideological foundations: A) gov't is too large and intrusive and B) if you're a redneck loser we'll tell you who's to blame and make their lives harder.

I have a fantasy that if some party adopted the "gov't is too large and intrusive" and really acted upon it, they would win b/c that's what people really want. It's a tough sell, though, b/c most people think gov't is too large/intrusive _except_ for the programs they support.

The TEA party has chosen to work thru the Republican Party because they are most aligned with their ideas. Getting a third party going seems impossible. If we can get Republicans to stick to the smaller government, lower tax and states rights issues they will win big and so will the country. It's when they stray from the core ideas tht they lose.
